Re: Charging

Hi Al I was thinking of a kit like this for my 1000r and was wondering if you now know of any changes to the kit supplied by them. thanks I recently bought the same kit from Electrex knowing of the faults and expecting no changes to the flawed design. I wasn't disappointed  They haven't chang...

Yes! Just the same as the crank nose i jigged it on in the lathe.
The stock rotors are never that accurate .

Re: Replacement Head / New Seats?

I've been off line most of the summer and only catching up on post now. I know this tread is going back a bit. If J valves are 1mm shorter than the 1000A or 900 valves, can the J also be shortened upto 1.3mm in a J head or are they tied into the 0.3mm max recommended in the service manual? Yes! the...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Got the cam timing finished off and dialled in so tackled a little job today that i'd kept putting off because there was good chance it may not work out. I'd bought this Electrex race alt for the turbo build which allows the use of a starter motor and decided i wanted to use it on the Racecrafters ...

It's from D&K.
More money to be made splitting a good machine than selling it whole.

Re: Z1100 Z1000 heads barrels

Hi, I'm looking for a top end to fit a Z1100 ST bottom end. Not sure if Z1000J heads and barrels are the same fitment other than cc? Trying to acquire parts as I go but don't want to look for parts that are not compatible. Will also need carbs, cams etc. Cheers, Rob You need to measure the little e...

That's what i'm pushing for.
Still loads more parts to make and mods to do as well as paint and covering the seat though.

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Looking like a bike again. Anodising stripped, sliders polished, forks rebuilt and wheels fitted. 1000008338.jpg 1000008340.jpg 1000008342.jpg Bit more clearance around the bike now to get the cam timing finished off and start tackling all the other little jobs to get the motor sealed up. 100000833...

Cylinder head on and torqued down. Kent Competition cams in with APE slotted sprockets, sat in new genuine cam shells and the carb inlet adaptor plates mounted and fitted with new genuine J manifolds all blended and matched to the ports. Re: Undercut or worn gears?

They are cut like that and show little if any wear.
Any wear will usually start to show up as rounding of the peaks and yours look crisp and sharp.

Re: Undercut or worn gears?

All that a steep angle may do is make shifting a little harder as the gear dogs will be more deeply engaged.
The unitrack has an entirely different gearbox, tooth form, ratios and larger output shaft which needs major modification to fit the early cases.

Re: Undercut or worn gears?

Yes! Those are non stock undercut/backcut dogs and look to be in very good condition.
The angle looks a bit aggressive though, usual cut is around 3 degrees.
FYI. The only big Z aircooled four with a factory undercut was the 1100A unitrack.

Re: Starter motor spinning but not engaging?

Didn't realise you meant those bolts. They are unique to the assembly of the Electrex rotor and must not be removed and would not gain you access to the clutch rollers if they were. You just need slip the starter gear from the clutch housing on the back of the rotor to replace the springs and roller...

Re: Starter motor spinning but not engaging?

Just an update of progress today. Pulled off the alternator cover to find a nice new Electrex R099 stator has been fitted ! Great I thought, managed to get the centre bolt out then went onto take out the 3 small hex bolts but couldn’t budge them and they started to burr over which was a pain. . The...
