Re: Cam cahin tensioner removal

Hi ChrisB what kind of bike do you have? If it's a bike with a manual chain tensioner take a look at the point of the bolt. It should be sharpened a bit if it isn't. If it's a bike with an automatic chain tensioner ( Z1000 MK2, H or ST) find yourself a bolt of the correct lenght! When you put the bo...

Re: Z1000 A1 Airbox

Hi Adrian as z1bman wrote: the silencer tubes are missing. Those plastic tubes were attached by 3 small screws and it was a common practice by owners to remove them. They did this in an attempt to get more air through the carbs . It didn't, the only thing that changed was the noise of the intake suc...

Re: exhaust rubbers

Hi Swampy don't panic! The 4 in 4 exhaust is not so difficult to mount on the bike if you follow the right working order. If it's the first time you do this, find a couple of helping hands to hold the exhaust pipe when you're wrestling to fit it onto the exhaust ports. Start with the number 2 exhaus...

Re: Matching paint, Stardust silver Z1100R

Hi John a close substitute colour for "Stardust Silver" is "Havasu Blue", found on the 2004 Hodna Acura MDX cars. My paint supplier added a little bit more blue. Mind that the colour changes when applying a clear coat of varnish over it! I used a light grey base coat on my bike a...

Re: Z1000 Restoration

Hi James I use a kit from Restom, a French brand, and I'm very satisfied about the quality. The kit consists of a degreaser, a deruster and a 2 component resine. It takes about 2 days to apply it, there's a notice how you have to use it but it's written in French. For a Z1000 fueltank it costs about...

Re: Z1000 a1 exhausts?

Hi Simon take a look at the website of bazar de la becane in Dunkirk , France, a replica exhaust for a Z1000A1 costs 1350 Euro. He assured me a few months ago that they fit and look like the original ones. I think he understands enough English to help you. I can't say anything about the quality of t...

Re: Z1000ST Restauration

Hello I'm back The lower cranckcase must be prepared now. I start by putting the shift drum half way in, then I install the 4th/5th gear shift fork and secure it by it's bolt and lockwasher. The bolt goes into the middle groove of the shift drum. DSCN3007.JPG Then I put the shift drum in place and t...

Z1000ST Restauration

Hi Guys I started the restauration of a '79 ( E1) Z1000 ST. I bought the bike in 2012 and used it as a donor bike. Throughout the years all that left was a frame and the bottom end of the engine. In the spring of this year I had the opportunity to buy 10 boxes of ST parts and decided to rebuilt/rest...

Re: Head difference

Hi ianali in the US in the early eighties of the previous century they worried about emission. Kawasaki came up with the idea to add fresh air to the exhaust gasses in order to get them cleaner and to be able to meet the US regulations so they could continue selling bikes in the US. There was a tube...

Re: Chrome front mudguard question

Hi Charly I don't know why you changed your bike's 19 inch front wheel for an 18 inch one, but anyway if you want the front mudgard to fit tighter on the 18 inch wheel have you thought about drilling holes a bit higher in the mudgard ? :eek Try it out first before drilling !!! Does it looks right? I...

Re: Back in the Land of the Z1

Hi Haggler Tony Sculpher mentions in his great book "Kawasaki (K)Z1000 Z1-R" that: " a good substitute for the original color "metallic stardust silver" is "Havasu Blue" which is found on 2004 model Hodna Acura MDX cars." Find one, it's worth the money and it'...
