It was also a common practice to run a colder grade plug in the middle 2 x cylinders on older air cooled fours back in the day, as the middle ones will naturally tend to run a bit hotter. The 7's being hotter are said to ensure the new ethanol fuels burn better? My A4 used to foul plugs, but I'm now using 7's in my A4 along with the "air corrector" kit that Rob (Zed1015) sells and the issue has gone away :up It was also a common practice to run a colder grade plug in the mi...

The charging system will handle a battery change to GEL so long as it is working okay. I'd go to GEL over lead just for safety; no more acid spillage. Change to a Lithium may require a specific "trickle charger" as they do need a higher rate than lead or gel, but I ran one on my Harris Zed...

I removed the Boyer Bransden and refitted as per instructions. It says to set the full advance at 5000rpm, with a strobe. I will get a couple of hundred miles on the engine first. Just set it at the stated 5000 rpm now - that won't do any harm in a fresh motor, especially as it won't be under load,...
