Using the formula I=V/R 12/3 = 4 amps for 3 ohm coils. Your 5 amp wire will suffice

As already said hot engine, wide open throttle and fully charged battery. I would also use engine oil rather than wd40 to give a better seal around the rings. If number 3 is still low then it is time for the head off sorry to say.

Stainless discs will chatter if you try to skim them. I used Coventry Boring to surface grind mine.

Inspect the blown fuse if it is heavily blackened or shattered you are looking for an intermittent dead short, which you will only find though a process of elimination. A lightly blown fuse indicates a slight overload. I have had problems with the poor contact in the fuse holder causing it to overhe...

Do a compression or better still a leak down test. If this doesn't point to anything then go back to your valve seals/guides.

I would recommend Buzzard for any head work if it needs doing.
