Re: HowieD's 'arris

Bloody hell - it's nearly been a month ! Well in that time I've hand to remove the head for some fettling at the premises of that well known Z Guru zed1015 (TYVM Rob :D ) 3B05.jpg Stripped a thread on the Cam Cap so had to do a Helicoil repair - once the kit was delivered from the Bikers Toolbox. £3...

Re: Wiring sizes etc.

I've done several rewires over the years and sourced most of my materials from Merv Plastics: https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/technical-information-1-general-notes-on-cable-sizing Even the thinnest wires can take 11Amps and a whole rear light cluster may only be 2A if everything is on at onc...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

All of those shims are too tight and you will have certainly been losing power on 1 and 4. Never set them at or let them go below 0.10mm. 0.10mm is the minimum clearance at which the shim should be changed. Always aim for 0.15mm and if the next shim size takes it a little higher to 0.16mm - 0.17mm ...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

According to the Odometer it's 900 miles since I got back on the road, so time for some routine maintenance - but of course routine maintenance can go both ways in the success department as will be revealed. The last outing was to Squires near to the east of Leeds for a Harris Owners meet up which w...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

I made a few additions to the mirrors. These are eBay knock off of Oberon and easily come apart to use longer mounting bolts to space them out past my shoulders. I had some black nylon bar machined to the size and diameter needed to tidy them up. Then they are also the top fairing mounts. IMG_0463.j...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

Hello - while I have some spare time to write up an update, here we are. I fitted the restored Plungers from Rob Meggit and the damn thing still wouldn't run right so I continued to work my way through the long list of suggestions compiled from all the usual places. In the end I took the whole set o...

Re: Harris Build

It looks very good. I took mine out yesterday for the first time this year and the damn thing has nearly crippled me. Combined riding position and rock hard suspension has put something out in my back. Can’t move now! I had the very same problem - the bike is the same and I've become a lot less fle...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

So following some sound advice I took my Choke Plungers to Rob Meggitt as I didn't realise how close he lives to me. A few days later, these arrived in the post: IMG_1416.jpg And I fitted them and set up the Carb Slider sync gaps with a 2mm drill then fitted them to the bike and boxed it up. Previou...

Re: Cylinder Head to Carb inlet rubbers

If you can't get hold of any Rubbers, have you thought of a small but of wood and a hole saw ?

I just grab mine (carefully) in a vice on the beefed up idle adjuster

Re: HowieD's 'arris

Now then, the foot pegs were a different matter. There are plenty of solutions for fully adjustable pegs but all that I could find still needed mounting plates made so they would fit. So looking around for solutions I found some 3D Printed templates: IMG_6984.jpg but still plates would need making t...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

The new bars in a comfortable position required the fairing to be raised to save my knuckles. The way the fairing is mounted allowed it to be pivoted around the rear mounting point with two plates made to raise the front - luckily the spacing was the same :) IMG_7123.jpeg a notch filed into the exis...

Re: HowieD's 'arris

The saga continues: this one is about the riding position. It's been that long since I was on the road with it that I can't ride comfortably any more and the riding position was so uncomfortable that I could only ride for about 20 minutes. I didn't want to compromise or spend money on some bars and ...
