It looks to be as there's no way for the ignition module to know which pickup coil has triggered the spark.

I think I may have the answer, which is as I suspected. The standard ignition uses two individually-wired ignition pickups, where when each pickup is triggered the IC unit then triggers the appropriate ignition coil. Looking at the Boyer wiring diagram there are two pickup coils but they're wired in...

If the flywheel isn't loose on the taper as Al describes above and the rollers just aren't having purchase on the starter gear, the rollers start to skip and wear a series of small flats on the starter gear face which causes the skipping to become worse. The only cure then is to replace the starter ...

Just to interject (sorry Rob), if it's a J-model onwards don't set your camchain tension with the cam cover off or you'll overtightened the chain when you refit the cover as the top guide pushes on the chain. On my '81 J I follow the standard APE instructions, tightening the tensioner by hand whilst...

I have a pair of 360mm CB1300 shocks I had on the back of my J before I replaced them with Nitrons. I'll take some photos later (it's a bit early now! ).
