The early Zed grab rail is the best one - the one with the brackets on it looks like **** I don't exactly know why Kawaski did that to all the bikes in '76. The old brackets will still be on the frame unless someone has cut them off and they're the same. Also goes for the 1000 A1/A2

It doesn't matter how well it's lapped to the taper if the starter clutch is worn and it jams nothing will hold it on. Short of drilling a hole in the rotor and putting an 8mm allen bolt through it that is. And I've seen that believe it or not on a Z1R this bloke I met once had bought... but it was ...

Garn the damper rubber would tend to shrink with age if anything. When the problem started to occur on my bike the rubber had been in there for the best part of 20 years without mishap so I don't think it could have been not properly seated on the taper. I replaced it at the same time as the other b...

If there's anything at all visible I'd say it was suspect. Those things exert a fair bit of pressure and the slightest hump could stop it dead in it's tracks. Especially in lighht of your problem. Just marks without it busting off I wouldn't worry about.

I took the kickstart shaft out quite a few years ago and put on one of those APE blanking plates because it looked purty. But having said that the bike has had rearsets on it since about 1980 so they got in the way of the kickstart and it never got any use for that reason anyway. Here's a look at th...

Sorry, I didn't see this post earlier - it's quite likely that the bolt's not looseing and letting the rotor slip, it's the other way round. The rotor's breaking off the taper and snapping the key, spinning and loosening the bolt. The key really only positions it, it's too flimsy to do anything else...

I would have thought that much in the way of changes to the exhausts would need the injection remapped. Why not ring some of the aftermarket end can suppliers for the Z1000s that you see advertising in Streetfighters and see what you have to do with their replacement cans?
