Re: Z900 A4 Strange gearbox issue, anyone help?

It's impossible to get the the selector drum etc wrong.
It sound's like your 5th is actually really 1st and you have the gear lever on backwards or rearset linkage reversed if fitted..
The lever should point forwards.

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Another little job ticked off today. Sourced the proper AMA spec plastic front numberplates for both bikes so the dummies i made for visual mock up can be trimmed down to form the combined number plate mount and dash support. Re: Gear selection problem

As Chris says. There's nothing wrong and you can only get 1st and neutral at a standstill. Once the transmission is spinning you can get the rest of the gears due to the 3 lockout ball bearings being released centrifugally. Removal of the ball bearings allows all gears to be selected at a standstill...

What is this arrangement for?

It's a spacer to bring the footrests up and out for better clearance.

Plugging away at the small snagging jobs that seem to take much longer than they should. Bottom rear shock eyes needed the bolt hole diameter reducing down to 10mm to match the XJR arm with the aid of some top hat sleeves . Finally got the motor buttoned up. Outer covers and external cam oiling lines fitted so filled with oil and spun on the starter until oil appeared from the cam journals then sealed up the cam cover after fitting some ally cam end plugs. SUNP0361.JPG Clutch cover has quite a bit of meat on it so add...

Re: Pumper Carb Help

Hi, Yes, they are VM28s. What you see in the picture is the bottom of carb #2. I am assuming there was never a check valve fitted as there is no hole down the centre of where the check valve diaphragm pin would fit so I am assuming that's how it came from the factory. Yes! The 28's used the same bo...

Re: Pumper Carb Help

Also, on my bike should there be a check valve with three screws? Its missing and what is there looks all capped off. Included in the rebuild kit I got a new diaphragm for it in addition to the pumper diaphragm but there is nowhere for it to go. I have added a photo (hopefully!) Thanks, Which size ...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Got a good few hours in recently but mainly on stuff that can't be seen. Rebuilt the oil pump and made this oil pan gate which allowed me to blast, paint and fit the sump to the motor with new 'O'ring and sump plug. Gate open SUNP0299.JPG And gate closed SUNP0300.JPG And got the camcover, kickstart...

Re: Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??

You must not run the bike without one fitted. As mentioned there are some on ebay etc or maybe a club member may have one spare. If you don't know what size you need then buy the thickest one (8.3mm) as they can be reduced in width by lapping on a flat plate with some wet'n'dry.. You also need to ma...

Re: Powder coating crankcases

Fair point Zed, I had similar issues with paint lifting too so must be my poor prep work. I noticed that Simoniz satin black isn't VHT from my recent search. The VHT version doesn't specify a surface finish. Can anyone enlighten me? I used flat PJ1 once and it was a bitch to keep clean so want sati...

Re: Powder coating crankcases

I've had a couple of engines through my hand 's that were powdered and they didn't last too long before it started to lift and corrode underneath and really eat into the alloy. I personally wouldn't coat the cases and just stick to using Sperex/Simoniz tough satin paint. It lasts for many many years...
