I spent a ridiculous amount of time on Saturday making the little bits at the back of the swinging arm in stainless ... why? I am beginning to wonder my self. The worst thing was that I didn't have any stock the right size so had to mill down some great lump with a 1/2" inch end mill. Sadly my ...

Rear wheel spacers

I am reassembling my back end of my Z1000A1 using a NOS genuine Kwak alloy wheel I bought on flea bay some time back. Using the spacers that were used when the old gurl had a set of after-market jobs fitted in Italy there is a bit of a gap. I am clearly going to have to turn up some new ones, but I ...

I am curious that you have chosen to completely assmble the engine unit before putting it in the frame. I was going to build the rolling chassis, then fit the engine with minimum assembly into the frame, so that it is at it's lightest and smallest giving me the least likelihood of chipping the powde...

Welcome to the Z1OC Sniffer.

Can't help with the bike, but did you used to hail from South Bristol? Many, many moons ago I used to know a Sniffer from down the Mardyke (a proper bikers pub, sadly no longer functioning as such). Not a common nick name?

Just as an aside, I believe small torque measurements on these small 6mm bolts are never accurate even when using a small torque wrench, Your hand is much more reliable I served my time in aircraft (british Aerospace) and whilst when I do have pretty good feel for torque, it is far safer to use a g...

I can't get the bearings from JMC as they don't make 'em any more. The bearings are imperial 5/8" ground out to 16mm (0.002" out). The local bearing company quoted me ?37summat plus VAT / bearing so until I can get some sensible priced bearings I'll have to stick with the bend arm! I got a...

I went to a friend's engineering shop to blag some hex stainless to make some bolts with, but failled to borrow some metric fine dies ... they seem to be as rare as rocking horse shit in th...

... which is why the tank, side panels and tail piece are being sprayed green!
I think you'll find that writing about Kwaks in red is worthy of a fixed penalty

Have finished the front wheel now; sprayed the inside of the discs with hammerite gloss and the wheel with hammerite satin. Dunno how it will survive, but it looks better now!

Thanks Dave. I stripped 'em and then scrubbed them in the parts washer with Jizer, using and onld half inch paint brush and the bride's tooth brush. I then let the parts washer fill a Super Cup (special offer in Woodberry Chilcott at present - I think they're for mixing suds) with Jizer and left 'em...

You painted the centre stand spring as well? Was that a mistake? It was rusted to fak so I lobbed it in the box for paint, it was that or the garbage bin. To be honest I don't know much about powder coating. If the paint cracks and falls off,I'm no worse off! I'm not sure how it compares with plast...

box section swinging arm bearing

I have problems with the box section swinging arm I got from e-bay. During the building project Bob the Builder managed to bury one of the taper roller bearings and it's end cap. Also one of the races was cracked so I really need to get a pair of bearings. I can make up new endcaps easily enough on ...
