Re: Carb Air Screws Seized - Any thoughts on how to get them free?

An ultrasonic cleaner might be handy for cleaning the carbs too, good idea. Any thoughts on a good make / model to look out for? I did a search and see loads of results about carb cleaning, just wondered if there are any favourite cleaners to check out.

Thanks

Carb Air Screws Seized - Any thoughts on how to get them free?

I have a couple of seized in air screws on my A4 carbs, is there a tried & tested way to get them out? I thought about penetrating oil, and maybe some heat but am not really sure how hot is safe. I know my carbs have muck in them so wanted to get them fully apart to clean all the passageways. Th...

Re: Dyna or Boyer

I like the Lucas smoke, must say that I have quite a few unfond memories of British car/bike wiring & assorted electrical items from the 60's & 70's. I seem to remember an Ozzie or NZ forum where Lucas was known as Leaves U Cold And Stranded. Thankfully things have improved quite a bit since...

Re: Dyna or Boyer

Many thanks for all your replies, I have quite a few things to be getting on with so will follow Pigford's lead for now and stay with the points. I'll see if the points based electronic system is still working for a bit of a diversion. Technically, I prefer the look of Boyer solution but based on th...

Dyna or Boyer

Does anyone have views either way for these ignition systems and the best prices / places to buy? Boyer seems a good option as it replaces the spring driven advance, but from what I've read on here people tend to prefer the Dyna product. I have an old points based electronic system that I bought qui...

Re: Z1 brake hoses

Thanks for the links, I think the prices will be beyond my budget :-( I saw a set on eBay for £75 that looked OK.

Z1 brake hoses

Hi, I need to replace the (don't laugh) original rubber hoses on my '76 Z1. Can anyone suggest a good supplier? Thanks.

Re: Just Joined

Thanks for all the encouragement, but it's too cold, grey & windy right now to re arrange my garage. I could take a pic of the plastic cover I suppose, but I'm sure to get some well deserved ribbing for that. When some nice, bright semi warm weather comes along I'll shuffle things around. I'll a...

Re: Any advice please for first start in a very long time.

If its churning over and not firing blow down one of the float bowl breather hoses until you hear it gurgle, then try again. It primes up the choke and pilot circuit, floods a little and generally gives it something to chew on so it fires. Like ‘tickling ‘ and old school amal. Breather pipes probab...

Re: 1976 Z900 A4 - OK to use unleaded?

use only the high octane premium fuel, as these have little to none ethanol added. ethanol in fuel causes phase separation over time when the bike is not used regularly. with the water element of the alcohol separating from the petrol. thus creating merry hell in the tank and carbs. Thanks for the ...

Interesting stuff!

Mine has twin front discs for sure & IIRC it had a seat strap but I think I took it off when I put a new seat cover on a while back. I'll check the V5 when I get some time later on.

That's an interesting comment, mine's almost certainly a genuine UK model, I bought it from a fella in Tadley near to Reading & Basingstoke. Any way to be sure from the frame number etc?

Re: Just Joined

Thanks for the welcomes folks. No pics for a while as I'm a bit embarrassed about the state of my Z900 and will need to give it at least some restoration before I dare show it. It's been a lot of years and will need a fair amount of re-chroming so it'll have to be a rolling resto. I'm off for a few ...
