Redbeard wrote:Thanks Kev. Yep, it was the one that came fitted, I wasn't sure what it was from, I think Alan said it was a Zephyr one but you've clarified what it is now. Fits nicely.

I did actually get it for my zephyr, but the bolt holes were in the wrong position.

Nice to see the bike changing back to a more standard look, the old ltd mudguard looks nice, if it came with the bike it's one i had hanging in my garage for about five years.

Many years ago i had a 1968 one with the slide opening windows and the cord door handles, i got it for economic reasons and hated it, too much like a go-kart, got shot of it smartish and bought a 2.0E mk 3 tincorna and stuck a 2.8 lump into it.
Still though Mark if nothing else they look the part.

If i could have got a decent 2 2 in stainless i would have gone with it, possibly
a future project for Dave at Exhaust Craft, it is a nice quiet motor now, was a tad noisy with the foobarred cam chain guide, and the Boyer has added to smoother running too.

A short video shot with the phone of the old XS650 running pretty much as it should, a bit more carb work to do, the new 2 into 1 makes them sound really different.

If not already done, make sure the first edge of the jets in are not too sharp as this can plane material off on the way in and stop the jet from going all the way home, i have always rubbed that edge with a bit of 1000 grade to avoid any scraping.

A man after my own heart, thinking outside of the box and a bloody good solution to a problem that rears it's head too often, that is much better than sending it to scrap, though some will scoff at it, this sort of thinking saved many £'s on my old thou.

That's come up a year early for me, otherwise it would be in my garage now, I would pay 5k for that without even thinking about it, but would have to change the bars as this old fella would suffer.
