Use plenty of good silicone around grommet + wires and i think your problem should be sorted.

The design of the KZ900/KZ1000 tanks differ from the Z1 tanks in a couple of ways. The welded seam underneath the tank is to the inside of the petcock mount, and the fuel cap mount only accepts the locking gas cap.
