Kev ,i had some and they were not even the correct shape and very thin ,could have been a bad batch ,but i was not impressed .

Use Vesrah/cometic gaskets,avoid athena gaskets at all costs .

I am pretty sure that you cannot remove that piece ,but my suggestion would be to, after getting it blasted and cleaned,is to get that section powder coated chrome .i have seen some amazing results .A friend used Triple S to do some bits and they looked excellent .
