Z 650 1978 (Baby Zed)

Well, I purchased a nice little Baby Zed last night :!: Last owner had it for 20 yrs  Got box of spares (raask rearsets, std seat, std rear mudguard, Centre stand, Kawasaki Manual, spare engine less barrels & head, etc). Has a rattly cam chain but runs OK, honed & new rings, good pain...

Best way is to use a small 'easy-out' stud extractor! One of those things with a thread that goes the 'wrong way' so as you screw it in, it tightens up on the hollow nipple (snigger) and as its being turned anti-clockwise, the tighter it gets, the more UNSCREWING force it puts on the nipple  N...

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE IS THAT THE OIL PUMP MESH IS PRONE TO GETTING BUNGED UP. IF THE ENGINE HASN'T BEEN APART FOR A FEW YEARS AND EVEN BEEN LEFT STANDING FOR LONG PERIODS, ITS WELL WORTH JUST DROPPING THE SUMP (EASY & CAN BE DONE IN FRAME) AND INSPECT & CLEAN MESH

When I rebuilt my Z1A with a 1015 Wiseco, I replaced the barrels single handed with a fair bit of patience, oil and support of the barrels with wooden chocks. Took a long hour or so! As everyone rightly says, the oversize boring removes lots/most/all of the bore chamfer. This can easily be machine b...

This is turning into a SEXIST debate :?: I must admit, it is widely accept throughout the EXPERT motorcycle community the the Zed is the KING (long live the King) :!: So, I must agree with Spiny, that a Zed is MALE :? This is conclusive evidence for the non-believers, the Zed is King, and it is poss...

Agree with above! Ride it normally, but don't thrash the arse off it for first few hundred miles. Use common sense and just treat engine with respect, warm up well and be sensible, listen to the motor talk to you  Gradually increase 'hard use' after a few hundred, but NEVER labour engine! &qu...
