How do the new exhausts sound?

Re: My Z1000A1 - 99% done
I like the bike very much. Well done. Has anyone mentioned that the reg. plate is hanging a bit low - and the tail light is pointing down a little too much?? I think this may be because you have the shorty rear fender from USA spec - combined with a stop lamp bracket from a different spec bike - pos...

Hi There and welcome.
I did up one of those bikes a while back.
There is a photo story here and the pics enlarge if you click them - http://www.zedrider.co.uk/z-650-b.html
You can get factory manuals and some other stuff from my website if needed.

Mark, If you can shift your bike first mine is a better buy than the £8.5k one I reckon. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1216746 Got loads of pics and vids from the rebuild. And it is the first year of production with the met paint and gold blingy bits. pm me if you want to take it any further....

If your silencers are beyond repair you can split the system and fit these repros.

There are pics of them on Z650 & Z1000 in the ad.
I have them in stock now if you want to give me a pm.

Re: Engine paint Z1
My way is to warm the can a little. Gets the spray out at higher temp and reduces runs etc. To do it I get a plastic bag round the can and then part immerse in a jug of boiled water whilst still hot. Don't leave it in too long or will get to hot to hold and be accurate. Cheaper & quicker than ge...

Re: DOHC infill
if you can get the part off the bike so the raised letters are flat it helps the paint to go where it should. I used some heat resistant black paint and blobbed it in with a pointed wooden stick ( like a BBQ skewer). You can push the paint around with the point to get it in the corners and it levels...

Re: How to find out original colour
look for traces behind badges/ grommets/ rubbers or inside/ underneath tank & panels or fuel filler cap/ catches.
a lot of painters wont get right in around those and there may be some original bits to spot somewhere.
Such as where front tank to frame mounting rubbers go or threads above fuel tap.
