Nice one, I've set myself a similar date for getting my J running and rideable, though I think the only bits of mine that are actually J are the frame, crankcases, battery box, rear mudguard and maybe the petrol tank and tail piece.

If the brown is the power feed to the CDI, then yes, but the kill switch won't do anything, you could run a live directly from the battery, but you'll have to disconnect it to stop the engine.

Unitrak Igniter Unit

Does anyone know what all of the 5 wires that are on the output side of the igniter unit do, the 4 wires that come in from the pickups are pretty obvious, and there are 3 (I think) that go off to the coils, but what do the other two do? My bike has one going through a strange little black block that...

Today I failed to get the barrel back on, so the helpful RobW popped round and helped me take the engine out so I could get the barrels put back on, Rob looked at the scoring in my barrel and said it needs reboring (I was in denial about this) so 1170 here we come, as this will be cheaper than Kawas...

I used to know someone with two of them in around 2000, have to get in touch and see if he's still got them, one had shredded primary drive gears.

Not much progress this week, I've been cleaning the old gasket from the bottom of the barrel, which is boring and time consuming. Contacted a local machine shop about repairing the threads but he was so vague on the phone that I won't be using him, a colleague used him for some work on a Lambretta a...

The dished sprocket on my Z has the holes in it, unfortunately I've no idea where it came from as it was on the bike when I got it.
Mine has a Unitrak gearbox so has a tab washer rather than using the bolt.

Isn't a 400F engine exactly the same as a 400J engine?
GPZ550 engine will fit, both the 400s are under engined 550s, GPZ600R engine might fit as well, it's 550 based but water cooled.
