Well I'm at a bit of a loss now! I got the engine out and all sturdily supported - took the Cam cover off expecting a corroded nightmare. But it looks perfect! And along with the results when I had it boroscoped & the Compression test last year it looks to me that stripping it down might be a wa...

Z1-R engine rebuild

Aye up, the time has come after 30 years of owner ship and f@%& knows how many miles to do an overhaul. Just thinking of replacing the cam chain and the rubber bits that go with the idler wheels and stuff. Considering that the Main Bearing & Barrel Studs were adequate all those years ago is ...

WOW !!

I wish I'd been able to find out that the Spa event was on -- I'd have gone ! Its my favourite circuit, used to live 70miles from there so it was handy for the 24hours and the GP!

Ah well erm !
I have a Harris so I'll just lift the whole bike onto the trolley and then unbolt and lift the frame off!

you can come and watch tho - as long as you don't tell anyone on facebook as I don't have a pool for them to trash!

I need to take my engine out to do stuff to the frame but don't want the engine rolling around balanced on the oil drain plug - any ideas for an engine stand?

Hi,
I used to connect a spare spark plug onto the HT lead and rest it on the Head. there will be a spark as the edge of the notch centres on the lens.

I think this info is in the instructions?

Hope this helps

Aye up, It came with that tank as it is, was a real bugger to get all the welds smoothed down and polished up. I actually ran it pretty much like that from 1996. There was an article about it in the Z1OC Mag then or early '97. Between building it and laying it up it did about 25K miles. There's a su...

Hi, I always used Mobil 1 in my Z1-R. used to give me improved fuel consumption. Used it since I first came across it in the 1990's. I thinks it's prolly overkill to use such a top of the range oil since its changed every 3000 miles. Once I get mine close to getting on the road I'll look into it aga...

Great stuff! Thanks for your help. Here it is a few years ago after I'd taken it off the road as my job had me all over the place with not much time on my hands. P&M Seat and Original Wheels, Forks & Brakes (With Lockheed's tho.) http://z1ownersclub.co.uk/useralbums/albums/userpics/10136/nor...
