Thanks Z1bman.
Yeah, I noticed that and wondered if it's worth exploring.
A complete engine would be the (elusive) dream, and I wonder about the chances of finding top end bits.
I'll have a think.

I do appreciate you taking theme to find the link and posting it here. :up

My Z400J project is at the taking apart stage. I now know why the airbox didn't sit quite right, it was because the carbs were not OEM. Couldn't figure out why anyone would do that until I checked the engine number, and the engine isn't a Z400J engine! It had been changed a long time ago, and the &q...

WTD Z400J engine

Bit of a long shot, but if anyone knows of a Z400J engine (circa 81-83) for sale I'd appreciate a heads up.

Cheers,
Davy

Practical Sportsbikes had an article on how to do this sort of thing, it was in the June 2012 issue.

Ta, I did quite a few miles on my original J3 back in the day. The wiring in this one is not inspiring, think I'm going to try to make up a new loom, what could possibly go wrong..... I emptied the oil the other day, it was very thin and smelt of petrol which I'm told probably means a carb's float i...

Yeah, thanks. I paid £750, and it was local rather than needing transported across the water which is never cheap. So, I'm pretty happy. I bought this to get my hands dirty, and it looks like it's going to do that in spades. Things discovered so far. Oil leak, seems from around filter housing, but ...

Z400J

My new toy, and my first project.
The photo flatters the bike, but it's a great start.
I had one back in the early 80s, loved it.
It's a Z400J, pretty certain it's a J3 model.

Nice job and nice bike.
I'd love to get the baby version, Z400 J3.

And the Z250 in the background near the end looked pretty nice too!

Seen it a show in yellow.
Looked OK, but I think it would have looked a lot better without those round side panels.
Coloured ZRX type side panels would have looked good.

One of the VERY few things we got right in N.I. is our MOT testing! (IMHO) It's done at government centres only, the testers are not on commission, are not allowed to "fix" the car etc. so it leaves very little room for "mates" deals etc. Are you sure the MOT is real? Over here y...

Probably not, as I think they click in on a tab that's near impossible to release. You might need to buy some of these http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/terminalsnonins/mouldingterms.php and use them in the new block- if you can get one. I'm no expert, so someone who is might giv...

If it's the same Haynes manual that I'm looking at, are you talking about the pic on page 132, fig 5-2? If so, it shows 2 top yolks. The onr top left is the ZX10. the one on the right is the ZZR, at least I think that's the way it is! I've has a look in the Kawasaki manual, and it seems to show a di...
