Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
I think I would use the standard swing arm ....... that one looks a bit too bulky for my eye Agreed. Also, the braced one looks taller where the chain goes over it at the front? It's hard to tell from the photo though, so could be a red herring! Good luck anyway, I'm watching this thread with inter...

Good luck with the project.
I've bookmarked this topic as I'm interested.
I'm doing a little Z400J, so I'll happily nick any solutions to problems you work out!

Only 18. There's only one "Z", the other "Z" would have to be by using a blank tile worth zero.
Assuming no double or triple squares are involved.
OK, now I'm off to search eBay for "A life"......

Re: Re-assembly order of rings, pistons & studs
Hi Davy I 've looked it up in the service manual and there's no torque mentioned; I think it has to be more than 2,3 m/kg as that's the torque of the cylinderhead nuts. It is mentioned though that you must apply a non permanent locking agent. Oh yes, before I forget: there's a free download of the ...

Re: Re-assembly order of rings, pistons & studs
Hi,
I'm about to fit the 12 studs back into the upper crankcase.
Does anyone know if these need to tightened to a particular torque, and should I use any thread lock with them?
I looked in the K workshop manual and the haynes but can't see any references to the studs.
Ta for any info.
Davy

Maybe worth trying supafix?

I've used it a couple of times and it worked a treat, been used in a couple of fixes in CMM magazine too.

Re-assembly order of rings, pistons & studs
Hi, My engine (Z400J) is being put back together again, I've a query about the order to do things. My thinking is to put the rings on the pistons first, then fit the pistons to the conrods, then insert the 12 engine studs. Is there anything wrong with doing it this way? Seems easier to me, but I've ...

That's very kind of you, if I get cold feet about using them I'll get back to you.
If you have other Z400J stuff do let me know- not too many owners out there!

Thread damage on stud - replace?
Hi, I was cleaning up the threads on the 12 engine studs from my Z400J project. 2 of the studs have a straight line "groove" in the threads, at the bottom end that goes into the crankcase. I assume this isn't normal? Will they need replacing, or is it ignorable? Thanks for any advice. Dama...
