I agree Dave Ennis is a good commercial bet.

If its running at all the tank/tap must be supplying fuel so carbs, either bad clean job or need setting up properly.
Float height, bench sync, vac sync, mixture.

Welcome, one possible cause is weak spark. Have you checked the voltage at the coils? The kill switch and 40+ plus yo wiring loom and connectors are possible causes for low voltage at the coils causing a weak spark and black plugs.

I would look at getting a repop mph one to use and keep the original for resale time.

What oil is in it? Needs to be compatible with motorcycle wet clutch. Having said that I would expect the opposite if it was a oil issue, slipping when hot, but you never know? I would try leaning no 3 right off whist it's ticking over just to be sure it's oil smoke and not fuel smoke.
