Met up with Andy (Zapo) for a run out in the sunshine.
Some old roads and some new - Nice to get some miles in.
Couple of pictures - parked up near Ambergate

Re: Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, was it you?
Hi Andy
I am trying to look after her in the fashion she was accustomed !
Here are a couple of pictures taken on a chilly run out today 12 April.
Mr Cullen might also be interested as he keeps tabs on his 'old' bikes
Cheers

Re: Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, was it you?
I need to get some miles on the clock !
Maybe meet up in Matlock or out that way - I think Bill P is somewhere in that direction too.
As I look out the window today though it is snowing !
Cheers

Re: Z1R Battery
Ordered from Halfords 'click & collect' a Yuasa YB14L for less than £50 tonight (coincidentally) Used them for years and never left me stranded. (Yes I did have to attach the underseat kickstart once to get me home around 1986! - but it did start) When they fail they fail gradually - so thats a ...

Re: Tyre options
On my last tyre change at the end of 2020 - due to covid causing production issues- the only tyres I could get were BT46's.
Situation may have eased now but just something to be aware of.

Before embarking on strip / rebuild I would just concentrate on getting it running right - if possible
Its amazing how 'rattly' they can sound if for example the carbs are out of balance.

Re: Engine oil
Definitely agree any semi 10/40 will do the job
(I've been using the Halfords one for years)
Don't be tempted to use 10/40 car engine oil as it is not designed to be in contact with clutch and can cause clutch slip
Cheers

Re: Z1000-A1 Exhausts NOS/Originals
Never knew A1 and A2 exhausts were different!
On my A2 the stamps are the same as the bottom picture except instead of S - 1980 - 6
mine says S - 1978 - 8
The main thing that struck me about the standard Z1000 is how quiet the bike is (compared to a Z1R)

Re: Rust in petrol tank
Watched a Henry Cole "fix it flog it' on TV this morning - where he (Alan Millyard actually) dealt with a rusty petrol tank by pouring in a jar of sweet molasses & leaving overnight. Probably can be googled for more details but I suspect if Millyard uses it there must be something in it. - ...

Actually says 'Non Fling Technology' on the tin.

Re: Z1000 special
Well I like it very much - Reminds me a bit of the 70's FLF (Flow Line Fabrications) bikes.
In fact my mate had a flf KH400 version although I think most, at the time would have been 250's.
