OK, how about someone anywhere in the country who can do head work (valve stems and gas flowing) ?
There must be folk on here who do this stuff properly ?

Re: Remove head without disturbing base gasket ?
Thanks, it's good to know that it can be done if you're careful. Can anyone recommend somebody to do the head work, preferably not too far from North Birmingham. I need the valve tips skimmed and was thinking about some porting to improve gas flow, although not sure whether it's worth it if everythi...

Remove head without disturbing base gasket ?
1981 Z1000J I will shortly need to get my valves stems skimmed to enable me to get adequate clearance as a couple are on the smallest shims already and the others are getting there. Back in the day I would strip this engine and remove barrels etc without much fuss, but I'm wondering whether I would ...

Before I put this out to the wider world, the very least I would take from a fellow enthusiast would be £4500

Re: Z1A Restoration
Can you not get the fuel tap fully serviced ? Especially if only one outlet is blocked ? There's a guy on the triples forum who refurbishes things like this. I could send you his details if interested ? There may well be someone on here who does this too, but you might need to ask in the Technical s...

Re: z1 valve shims
Smallest standard shim available is 2.00mm
If you find a source of good quality smaller ones then I’d be interested.

Re: z1 valve shims
Anyway rant over .... I will buy 2.15mm shims which should give me top tolerance 0.15, prefer it to rattle a bit than all the clearances disappear on start up Thanks for the help Unless I've misread, don't you need a 2.00mm shim to give you the correct clearance? 2.15 will leave you with nothing if...

Re: Spark plug grade mix
It was also a common practice to run a colder grade plug in the middle 2 x cylinders on older air cooled fours back in the day, as the middle ones will naturally tend to run a bit hotter. Am I correct is saying that some of the old air cooled fours had larger main jets in the middle carbs than the ...
