Re: How I've come to own a modified Z1000J and it's refurb
Z passed it's MOT Saturday, I've put about 120 miles on it since then, it's great to ride, running in at the moment so staying under 6K and cruising about 4K in top (60mph), it makes good power from tickover, handles well at normal road speeds, very good in fast sweeping bends. I've never had a bike...

Re: Z1100R carbs.
With the RS34s the fuel tap just catches on the top of the carbs, I hadn't thought of lifting the tank up, I've got a Pingle tap to fit, but filing the existing tap handle would also solve the problem.
The accelerator pump on the RS34s are easy to set up, much easier than the older VMs

Re: Z1100R carbs.
I've got RS34s on my 1170, they're running a bit rich, but easy to ride with, and none of the wooliness you get with CV carbs, if I wanted CV carbs, I wouldn't fit the BS34s that it came with, I'd probably go for a set of a GSXR750M, much more modern and give better throttle response

Re: 12mm front master cylinder complete
Brembo and Grimeca make 12mm master cylinders with built in resovoirs, neither are particularly expensive, other than those you'll be looking for a second hand one off an MX bike

Re: 12mm front master cylinder complete
I've got an 11mm brembo off a Husqvarna I can sell you, but 11mm seems very small for a Z, standard Z1000J is 5/8.
If you do want a 12mm, Husqvarna SM610S has a 12mm Brembo, DRZ400 is 12.5mm

Don't get the cheapies, they usually block the air jet holes in the mouth of the carbs, I think my ram airs were about £75

A undamaged J one, any colour as it's going to be painted, but there are other bits that need money depending on first.

Does a 550 have the same frame, like Z400Js and Z550s?

Re: Z1000J sidepaels
Got mine through eBay, from a paying point of view it was easier for me, they arrived Wednesday, fitted them yesterday, perfect fit, good finish, tempted to leave them black and not bother painting them.
