As advised by Al, Loctite 5980 is good but always buy it from a shop as it has a Use By date and will not go off if it's exceeded - the date is on the tube, not the box. You can get it from Halfords.

Yes. My J has a pre-1980 Kerker pipe fitted and the header diameter is the same between models.
If you're using a stock exhaust the header clamps might look different but are interchangeable, with the exception that some early years used M6 if I'm not mistaken.

Don't put it back to standard, it'll be awful, flexible and dull. Relive your youth and do the mods as you suggest like you would've done back in the day - trust me, it makes an average bike into a good one! :wink: (If you hadn't guessed I'm not a rivet counter - I don't get it as nobody had a stand...
