Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

With only 18 ft/lbs and a keyway broached in that original hub there should be zero chance of the hub getting taper lock on the crank nose. That should make the extracter threads redundant and a basic three (long bolt) puller like mine tapped into inboard holes on the flange more than adequate i wou...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

I made a three bolt extractor for mine but as you know i have the std. fully flanged hub from the original kit. If it wernt for the fact that weld is so hard to drill and tap, i'd suggest building up the three stubs between the mounting 'arms' and machining back, then drill and tap. I would not have...

Re: Z1100 Z1000 heads barrels

Here is a viable way out of youre situation. I know its a full engine but by the time you buy; head, cam cover, barrels and a set of pistons that will cost you more. You will also end up with a load of good useable spares going forward and they do say make an offer so might get it a bit cheaper than...

Re: Z1100 Z1000 heads barrels

Heres' an 1100 head. Its the 'bispherical domes' version and looks to be good condition and complete apart from cams and a good price for one of this type. AL https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335131705308?hash=item4e0767ffdc:g:alEAAOSwCI9lXjYR&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0KCMEr6XAQbVVu%2BzLD0FPf6jK8N9u9e59dB...

Re: Torque setting for change drum bolt with spring and ball in

I might be talking out of my hat here because i dont know the early engines but the Z900 manual shows a differnt 'bolt' (two stage bolt with spring and ball) in the aluminium boss you have pictured. This 'two stage bolt' appears to have a fine thread and the bolt (single head you have pictured) appe...

Re: Fork Oil

Hi Phil, SAE is a range rather than an actual number. 15 is probably from 12.5 to 17.5 for example. Not all producers use SAE, or use it the same way so its a bit of a lottery. Cst is the correct way to assess fork oil and you wont get that on the bottle. Safest to change it all since you need to bu...

Re: Crankshaft machining

How about a hollow shaft with a shoulder on the inboard end. Shoulder detail is a mimic of the base of the advance and retard unit so uses the pin and slot to locate it. Longer bolt through the middle and away you go.

Re: Advance retard unit.

Pin is available new from ZPower etc and is about £3. Just measured the inner track on the LHS of my J crank here and it is 32mm for information only. I would have a word with Ray at Debben Performance in Ringwood. He's been repairing / re-building Zed cranks for donkeys years, perhaps he can help w...

Re: Sticky Valve bucket?

This has come up on here quite a bit in the past but not seen it recently. I dont know if its the same because you dont give details but i think it was generally accepted that it was frequently caused by poor repairs to cam cap threads particularly the J heads which are made from drop forged peanut ...
