Re: Z650 Special Revisited

Well finally made some further progress and got round to getting these casings ready.. After vapour blasting the guy covered them in ATF50 to prevent corrosion so I gave them a blast through out parts washer at work. Just like a big dishwasher.. followed by a few coats of aluminum Ht paint. Quiet ha...

Adrian correct but that’s why they only have a few psi in the tyres. Helps a little. But not all that much :)

Re: A Non Zed Project

Well some progress on this one. Got everything stripped finally after lots of painful issues with stuck and rusted bolts etc. lots of heat and hammers helped! After spending a few hours cleaning up the mess and fixing a few broken pieces on the frame I think we’re good for blast and powder. Back axl...

A Non Zed Project

It’s not a Zed so I’ll post it here.. Ok so I decided it was a must buy! Because I obviously don’t have enough projects already and I needed another one. One which will be almost impossible to find parts for in the UK just to make it more fun.. but I’ve always had a thing for them! Ok it’s not a Zed...

Re: Z650 Special Revisited

I decided to try a local vapor blaster for the engine casings, so got an update from them today. Look fairly good. Will put everything through the ultrasonic cleaner at work once I pick them up and should be ready for Paint. I’m planning an Aluminum finish. Anyone got good experience with any specif...

Re: Z750 Crank & Conrod Markings

Thanks Guys, yeah the Manual shows where they should be but the whole no mark thing is just a pain, would have been better to have 2 different marks depending on the tollerance rather than that to eliminate any doubt. However seem recommendation is to plastigauge anyway to be sure?

Z750 Crank & Conrod Markings

Hi Guys, hoping someone can help me here as need a little sense check.. Just checking the Crank from this z750 E engine to see what journals to order for the big ends. I’m looking for an “O” or no mark. As far as I can see there is “No Mark” for both the Conrod and Crankshaft Journal Diameters. But ...

Re: Z650 Special...not for the purist.

My turbo was totally standard, but I’d never had much luck getting it running properly back In the day so decided for the refresh just to go with a NA engine. I’ll be going to 810 on this one, should be fine for the crank being standard. Will replace big ends anyway just to be safe. Hopefully see so...

Re: Z650 Special Revisited

Finally got time to have the motor totally stripped and for what I paid I’m very happy. No broken pieces, everything looks in exceptional shape so far and only one broken bolt which was easily sorted with a little heat.. Crankcases away to go through the unltrasonic cleaner at work and see how they ...

Re: Z650 Special...not for the purist.

Looking good, I’ll be following closely since I’m doing my 650 again just now also. Any plans to do anything with the crank? I’m wondering if there is much can be done really other than big ends since they are cast rather than the big motors being pressed.

Re: Z650 Special Revisited

Been a bit distracted lately from this due to various side projects but I did make a bit of progress as the weekend.. Went for a visit to the local breakers for some other spare parts for another project and asked if he had any complete engines around. Luck would have it he had a complete 750E motor...

Very tidy one and will sell at that price. I just sold an identical model but nowhere near as clean for 1600.
