Yep, I cleaned the whole casting out and washed all the worm drive parts in turpentine then dried and cleaned and greased everything that moved.

Thanks guys, it's sorted. I pulled the chain cover and poked around in there referring to my parts manual and shop manual as well. I greased the rod that goes through to the clutch too and it's now working good, but not as smooth as I would like. In hindsight, a pretty simple exercise. Like I said, ...

Sticky/Grabby Clutch

I've put all new cables on my Z1. The clutch cable has been well oiled and I've traced the sticky problem to the Outer Clutch Release/Inner Clutch Release mechanism.. Maybe. Can anyone help? How much of a drama is it going to be if I remove the front chain cover and oil pump to get some grease into ...

I'm pretty sure the spokes were Bright Zinc Plate ex the factory and the nipples are Yellow Zinc Plate. I'm happy with that look as it's not all **bling** and bright versus the rest of my bike which isn't so flash.

Agreed, let the professionals re-lace your rims.

I used the same rebuild kit as well as a sleeve for the tap. Useless! The sleeve swelled up and turned to chewing gum.

A Pingel is the only tap that will work as far as I know

Thanks gray. I think that you and Hondaman are onto it. The little air inlet that goes to the carb holders, is that the one you mean?

The auto electrician has found and fixed the short. The coils are good as are the HT leads and it has a great spark. The timing has been reset. The bike continues to bog when cold and will only run half way decently with the choke out. The right had plug is wet. So it's back to the carburettors I th...

The bores are in good condition with no scoring and the valves have been lapped in. A broken ring would surely show up and the engine runs like crap on all four cylinders. But it's still a good idea and I will run with it if the replacement coils and leads don't fix the problem. Thanks for your inpu...

I wonder if HQNDA works? Yes it does. Can I get myself banned from this forum for transgressing the unwritten rule?

Someone told me I had an anti-authoritarian streak in me and I can spell it, I think, but I'm not sure if I know what it means.

Hi Kerry. The mechanic did a compression test after he put the head back on with the new O ring around the cam tunnel and there is a new head gasket. It all checked out fine. I'm sure that my H**** coils will fit the Zed so I'm going to try that and see what happens. Someone at work feels sure it ha...

Hi, I read about Denso IW24's so I fitted those. They were sooting up so the mechanic didn't want to stuff them so fitted correct NGK's. I have a guy in our club who has a Z1B so I might ask him to come around. Good idea. I'm happy enough with old style points. I have them on my H**** and they don't...

Sorry, I forgot to add that I have fitted a new battery as well. Thanks, you were right onto it though.

The Japanese K and L Jet Needles that came with the kits were fitted and the bike ran like crap. I had sourced a set of 5j9's off Pigford but there was no improvement when those were used..

Calling all mechanics, I really need some help.

I'm restoring a '73 USA spec Z1. When I first got the bike running it seemed as if it was running lean and would also bog and wouldn't accelerate or run even half way decently without the choke on. Work done so far: New points and condensers on a new backing plate. New spark plug caps and plugs. New...
