A few more pics. Trying to decide whether it's worth repairing them, just cleaning them or selling as is.

Thanks for everyone's input

Re: Z1 4-4

I thought Z1A and Z1B’s had a cover strip over the weld - though I could easily be wrong. I researched that with Dave from Cybike and were unsure for the Z1-A, depends what you read. Also, Z1-B have stamping, again not sure about the A. My uncertainty with these is they just seem too old to be Repr...

Re: Alloy wheel refurb

I’m not sure there is much magnesium in the R2 wheels any more than any other alloy wheel  a picture of the chunk out might help if it’s not too bad a good alloy welder should be able to tackle it No more than in a cylinder head... head weld2.jpg head weld3.jpg head weld4.jpg head weld5.jpg ...

Re: Z1 4-4

Judging by the one picture, I'd say they are original. What is the date of manufacture for this Z1? They were on a very early Z1-A. It came from the states and the rest ofvit seems pretty unmolested, original paint, toolkit etc. I thought Z1-As had stamped 74 pipes, but of course a set of 73 pipes ...

Does the joint where downpipe meets muffler have a 'band' to hide the weld? If not, is the weld chrome plated or painted with silver?

Band is chrome plated.

Z1 4-4

I have a set of 4-4 exhausts taken off a Z1 with no stamps. They are in poor condition, but I don't know if they are repro or original. They were on a bike that hadn't been restored or touched for many years so I suspect too old to be repros given their condition. I'm guessing there will be some eas...

Re: Tell me how this can be!!!

someone asked me to take a look at their tacho issue. Bike is a 650 with points ignition. Tach is a straight 3 wire jobbie. Live, earth and signal. As expected due to wasted spark tach reads 50% of actual revs. No problem I think, take a signal from both coils with diodes inline to stop feedback. D...

Yes! They are electronic devices filled with chemicals that change or degrade over time.

Re: Head & barrel cleaning etc.

You only hone if you are fitting new rings but you may be taking a gamble with the original rings after all that time even though they are in spec etc. 50/50 whether you pull it off.. Fingers crossed.. Cleaning with the process you describe won't be a problem.. ^^^ This Also agree with this except ...

Re: Hand tapping lubricant

Cheers guys. Have ordered some Molyslip from Zoro. Have also earlier ordered some TC taps. Appreciate what you say Zed1015, but after nearly getting a HSS tap jammed in the crank I think I'll go for the harder option. I really don't want to have to go down the route of deinstalling the crank to get...

Re: Old Zed - Cyl head cracks worse than usual?

The only issue I've seen that cause is a build up of carbon that sticks to the plug. I've seen it bad enough to need an impact gun to get the plug out, but it didn't pull the threads out like I thought it might. On that one, personally, because of the state of the threads AND the crack I would Time-...
