if there genuine, they are numbered 1-4 on top at collector end, if headers are rechromed - good chance numbers are gone.
some after markets are also numbered, in Oz anyway.

evans, wot oil are you useing? As we know must be mineral or semi synthetic.

Some years ago had a Z1B with new plates fitted, mistakenly put in synthetic, had same prob as your described, slipped/grabbed on launch only in first gear.

A note.. Some early zeds (72/73) had the bevel facing downwards (gen kawa rings only) which threw a lot of zed enthusiasts into total confusion.
