Re: 1983 GPZ1100 A1 Restoration

If youre following the stated torque in the manual verbatim, you will have stripped all 16 by the time youre done. 6ft/lbs or less, better with the wrist ratchet to just nip them and to that end, having the cams fully down will help immesureably.

Re: Gpz1100 clutch removal

Rob you need to remove the tubular 'adaptor sleeve' from the spline shaft first. Its tight but a strong grip or maybe a bit of heat gun and it slides off. The satin black bit with the holes in is one of two spring steel 'washers'. It (the visible one) will just pull off revealing the hardened ground...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

Well done. How did it ride and run? Coughing, spluttering, holding back, missfiring etc?? Pulls like a train? Plugs are No 1 to right to No 4 on left. I am going to hope you mean the other way round! Looks like the 'air filter out' did not make a significant difference so you could say; it, and the ...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

but may limit to 50 mph? Keep the continuity and do it at 60MPH. Took this pic at Donnington yesterday. Its a bit rich, but a situation that was forced on me by a failed Dyna 2000 module. The timing of the two modules is very different. What you can see is, it has the 'Colour' on the base ring whic...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

first pic, gloved hand, 60MPH; #1 A little rich but heat range and temp. perfect. Colour change is on radius of groundstrap which is where it should be. #2 A little rich and running hot. Colour change nearing the base ring and top threads showing signs of reddening. I still think this is a weak or f...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

Good effort but no cigar :D Really need to see all four and not on tickover, sorry but i am determined to win the £500 for finding the answer. The 'half' shims were on my CV's and again now on the radial flatslides. Dont know where to get them and you may not have them but they are full circle like ...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

Photo of plugs was before I removed the carbs, cleaned them replaced the seat/valves, had the choke plunges done etc, only No 3 now remains black and sooty. Another photo of the 'now' situation would allow a better assessment of the many changes that have happened since that photo was taken. In the...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

This is the pic you posted in the thread; Black Plugs. Were they in correct order left 1.......2......3.....4 Right?? black plugs.jpg You could;............put the B8 back in, weaken the mixture screw on number 3 only, drop the needle by one groove on number 3 only, remove the air filter and take it...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

I fitted aftermarket float bowl gaskets to my previous carbs. They were too wide across and fouled the floats. Are the choke plungers confirmed as being adjusted to fully seal? The original pic you posted (sooty plugs thread) showed one plug as having a 'clean' ring round the centre electrode. The m...

Re: Non cdi coil on cdi ignition

Are you talking about the difference between 3 ohm and 2.2 ohm coils and which to use with the standard ignition system?

Re: Cam Chain Link Options

Hi Andy, the hollow pins have a very specific and very narrow 'band' within which 'success' falls. I see you have the dimensions for the flaring width but there is also an angle for the tool that produces it. They may not have told you that if you do this wrong; it is very likely to develope minor r...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

I had the same problem after buying replacement float needles / seats which turned out to be 1mm or so shorter on my last carbs and faced a similar problem with the ones i have now for another issue. In both cases i found it seemed to have less risk of damage to put a 'set' in the tang in order to g...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

Not that line; Meniscus is always defined as the centre of the tube, meaning; read at the centre of the tube so in this case its the lowest part of the downward curve.

Re: Z900A4 float levels

Just based on the photo above; that would be a great place to start. Choke plungers will make a disproportionately greater difference to mixture strength by far than will a few mm this way or that on the fuel level height. When i do mine i may have to take them on and off four, five times, perhaps m...

Re: Z900A4 float levels

The question of 22mm vs. 26mm has come up many times before and i still dont know the answer. With regard to another type of carbs i am aware of at least two different versions of the way it gets measured for that specific variety. One is with the carbs vertically upside down and the other is with t...
