KZ900 Fo Sale
Hi all
After the conversion to double disk I have decided to sell my beloved bike.
It is black paint with 4-1 Vance Hines in excellent condition. Seat has a few minor tears at the usual front. Not that bothersome.
It has had EVERYTHING replaced over the last few years except the clutch and gearbox. It is 1mm oversize with nippon made in Japan pistons. Less than 500 miles since first rebuild.
The only anomaly is it has Z1000A2 Carbs fitted as the original ones got broken. This only means it does splutter at 7000rpm, if throttled quick. Done slow it is fine so this really y is playing with jets or another set of Z9000 carbs.
It has not been redlined as it is not run in fully yet, due to poor weather and personal illness this last two years.
All the electrics including the stator and magnetic rotor have been replaced and the regulator is the combined one from Z-power.
Asking price is £6250 OVNO as I have spent over £5000 on it!!!!
regards
Phil

Phil,
Sorry to hear you are selling, do you have any photos.
No reason why it should run badly with correctly setup 28mm carbs though. Are you running through the original airbox, or pod filters?

Re: KZ900 Fo Sale
It does not run badly, it runs well, but the z1000 carbs are not designed for the Z900.
I have z900 carbs I paid a fortune for and they were cleaned by experts and so called experts on dynatune and they ended up with rich high setting and 106 main jets stuffed in them and still did not work. THe Z1000 carbs at least allow me to ride from 0 to 4000rpm flawlessly no flat spots and a really smooth nice ride. I simply do not red line a bike that is not run in yet.
So I will NEVER go near dyna experts again.
I can sort some photos out by next week I am very busy right now.
I will be advertising in motorcycyle news and ebay in the near future but do not want to pay paypal and ebay rip off fees.
regards and thanks

Were the carbs vapour blasted by chance? I've had quite a few sets through my hands that are scrap after the owner has paid a lot of money to have then blasted. And plenty of examples where they have not been refurbished using new parts (as claimed) or worse, manged or damaged/bodged...
I've had good success using the 'Car & Classic' website for selling bikes.
If you use EBay, use a Classified. A one off payment for the advert and no fees when you sell.

Re carbs damaged after vapour blasting , can you start a new topic on how they have been damaged by this please

Carbs have much finer passage ways that engines and look at the trouble that some folks have had with engines after being blasted... I've seen blocked airways in carbs after blasting. But maybe the blockage was there before the blasting? Who knows, I just often deal with the aftermath when someone asks me to sort their carbs....
The other issue is surface damage done where too much metal is stripped away from the body as the alloy is very soft and of variable quality, so very easy to damage. Also, I think there are some blasting companies out there who don't specialise in carbs and thus treat them like any other ali bike part..
Personally I would not use vapour blasting on carbs. Even if there is no damage, it leaves an unrealistic finish on the bodies. I prefer to see the original grey finish preserved, but it can take a lot of effort on carbs which have not been cleaned in 20+ years. Vapour blasting makes them look all shiny and is relatively cheap.
Obviously there will be people who have had their carbs vapour blasted with no issues and happy with the results.
I see all kinds of horrors and most things can be sorted with time and effort. Except a ruined exterior finish or maybe blocked airways.

Re: KZ900 Fo Sale
The biggest problem with anyone having issues after vapour blasting is the item is not cleaned thoroughly afterwards , it isn't the v b process it is the cleaning afterwards. Carbs in particular should be ultrasonically cleaned after blasting. I am seeing v b firms on Facebook blasting complete engines which is a huge mistake and when it goes pear shaped for the customer it will be the process blamed and not the firm making a big mistake . I once blasted a CBX head with rocker box fitted and new rubber seal to prove to the customer it should not be done , the media did get in , as I say I did it to prove a point.

Agree with AndyM, cleaning afterwards is essential.

Re: KZ900 Fo Sale
The Carbs were not injured in any way, it is simply I have not red lined the engine as it is not run in.
The bike has had so little mileage it really has had no time to run in.
It is not damaged or faulty it is 42 years old and no one should expect it to behave like a two year old machine with 20k miles on it.
It has never let me down, always got me home and I am only selling it due the fact I am emigrating in the near future.

Re: KZ900 Fo Sale
It is an excellent bike for the money, but no one seems to want it so I may break it down and sell it off bit by bit. I could make more money although it is a pain doing it )))))))))))))))))
