A4 for sale

#1 PostAuthor: zapo » Sun Mar 02, 2025 12:29 pm

Before I get too old I'm looking to work through my list of classics that I'm yet to own.
To fund this I'm selling one of my zeds.
I brought it with 14k on the clock and now it's six years and 13k miles later, regular use without missing a beat.
USA import.
Pipes are reproduction (zpower) new seat and frame powder coated otherwise original.
I'm often asked if I restored it myself but actually its never been restored, just in super tidy condition.
Smokes on cold start which clears after a quarter mile riding. Probably valve stem seals. It was like that when I brought it. Starts easily runs nice and regular 45 - 50mpg so I've ignored it for six years
Comes with written service history while in my ownership including valve shim sizes and clearances.
Price £9000,
Viewing welcome, I'm in Burton on Trent.

Nice A4 - would think a couple of years ago that was a £12K bike.

GLWTS.

In no particular order H1, H2, T160, GT550. There are a few guilty pleasures as well but I would be too embarrassed to declare them on here

You're probably correct. I do think I've underpriced it a bit but it is what it is, a value for money sale.

Had 2 H1's (A + D) and a H2B. For me I'd take the H1 every time, H2 just has one to many little quirks. That said a H2C in Candy Purple is probably the prettiest Bike of 70's.

Interesting. Yes, a H2 would have to be a C in purple.
For the H1 I like the F in blue.
I've had lots of two stroke triples but neither of the above.

Any Internet expert cant wait to tell you about the Widowmaker H2 and it's killer handling & brakes, but for me that was the least of it's problems. Stupidly heavy Clutch, vibration through the bars and pegs, comedy fuel and oil consumption (Ok, you expect that) were just a few of it's little quirks, although to be honest I could have lived with these faults, but the deal breaker for me was the off throttle low speed surging which made the bike an absolute pig to ride below to 25mph.

To be fair all the above problems can be sorted now with modern Clutch kits, rubber engine mounts and Ivan Jet kits if you wanted to go down the upgrade route.

For me though the H1 is cheaper to buy, a little easier to live with and isn't that much slower, although when you hit around 5.5K revs it does go a little Banzai... to say the least.

My old H series....
