This thread resonates with me quite a bit and I can really appreciate the dilemma Fred has.
I actually part exed a gt750B in that colour for a Z1R back in the day so have an affinity to both. However the one I couldn't get was a z900 a4 hence sourcing one and restoring.
Fred has addressed all the weaknesses I recall from the Z in particular the brakes which were shocking in complete contrast to the Gt 750 .
Cant really help other than say go with your heart .Whatever you end up with will be a good place to be and your money should be safe.
All the Best G

All good advice G.

Thanks

I had a z1r-hated it-swopped it for a katana-hated that more.

nowa rg5(gearboxes aside) or a tuned TDR :mad

Still think the Z is worth way more IMHO!

Fred, dont sell your z1r...save up the funds, and keep your zed indoors...and lc in the garage.
Ive had the pleasure of owning a 4lo (mars bar) and a powervalve (better bike ) in the past, but I still have my zeds....would I sell my mk2 or my gpz1100 to by another? ?.No .!
You will miss that bike. :dead

youd be best having a test ride on a lc first b4 you loose the zed.looks like a case of wanting some thing then gettin it ,then wanting somat else ,or regretting what youve sold ,lc s agood bike for the twistys ,but there no good for distance.

Hey JP

I wrestled with the concept of selling it and got it sorted in my head before I put it up for sale. Once its sold, I'm not the sort of person to change my mind and piss people about. In an ideal world, of course I'd have kept it, but I haven't the spare cash or space to do that...... and I still have my journey in motorcycling to complete.

Cheers

Hi Neil

I get what you're saying but it's not possible to do it all. I've got to make my choices and see how it goes. In 37 years, I've only bought 2 duff bikes - my first bike was an XS 250. Bloody terrible machine which I was fortunate enough to embed into the side of a Vauxhall Viva about two months after buying it and the other was a Triumph Speed Four ( perfectly fitted the bill for Thundersport's Streetfighter 'B' Class in Club racing) but it spilt it guts on its first ride.

Indeed there are! Prices are crazy really but all two-strokes are going that way. Just put a deposit on one. :D

My first serious motorcycle was a Yamaha YDS6, and over the following 4-5 years I bought a DS7, R5, RD250 and RD350 before graduating to a GT750 and eventually to a Z1 followed by a herd of other zeds.. After years of wanting another RD350, I got to ride one, and was totally underwhelmed - really I had been spoiled by the power of the big zeds. 100mph on the RD350 felt like 70mph on the Z1....

I think you would be disappointed by the RD. I would love to have one, but I sure wouldn't trade down for one.

Just my tuppence worth...
73 Z1 (turbocharged), a 74 Z1A, and some h***a's and Suzuki's...
