Re: Z1100R For Sale - Genuine Eddie Lawson
Peter wrote:You can't call an 1100R a 'Genuine Lawson Replica' as he only raced a 1000! If you want to dismiss the 1000R as a J3 you could say the 1100R is a GPZ1100 with a few changes, they all share many interchangeable parts. Lawson had moved on to Yamaha after 1982, so Kawasaki dropped the reference to Lawson and is one of the reasons given for painting the 1983 UK bikes white....
The only real Lawson Rep is the one that the US got for 1982... We Europeans had the 1983 Z1000R2 Superbike Replica (commonly referred to as the Lawson Replica, but not by Kawasaki), which was more than a J3 with a fairing and seat change. In addition to those items, the front discs are 10mm larger, yokes, handlebars, clocks, rear shocks, cams and carb jets and I'm sure a few more things differ. As the owner of a 1000R2 for 20 years, I've spent considerable time looking for parts, only to find many J parts aren't compatible....
This was followed for 1984 by the Z1100R, which Kawasaki didn't refer to as a Lawson or even Superbike Replica.
I can't understand why people think the 1100R is 'more desirable' than the 1000R, when the Lawson association and race heritage (if there is any) doesn't support that line of thinking.
I'm amazed at the asking prices of all Zeds, with some 'standard' 900 & 1000's into 5 figures! Glad I bought mine before people thought of them as investments... still, they're all only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for them and how strong their rose tinted specs are....
Sold my CBX6 (£3,000) to buy the Z (£1,600) and previously sold my lovely Z1R (which at the time people thought ugly) for even less and struggled to find buyers for either.... oh how times have changed!
Enjoy a safe summer riding...
I'll answer that, as many of the comments were mine...
Firstly, no offence was meant, I was commenting on why the price of an 1100R seemed more than that of a 1000R.
Personally, I never call any of them Lawson Replicas except a KZ1000S1.
Something is more desirable if you desire it more, I would rather have an 1100R, just my opinion, it's also my opinion that many others would too, hence the prices. For me that desire is based on having owned a few and enjoying the phenomenal power, it has nothing to do with the (absent) Lawson association or race heritage.
Also, I think, again my opinion, that the 1100R is the true last of the air cooled twin shock Zeds, coming a year after the GPZ1100B2, on which it is, as you say closely based, but with upgrades similar to those you point out for the 1000R, to which I bow to your greater knowledge. Following the 1984 model year, there were no twin shock, air cooled Zeds until the Zephyr....I think??
When I was searching for 1100R parts, I had thought that I found 1000J and 1000R parts to be largely the same, ie 1000J2 = 1000R1 and 1000J3 = 1000R2, but it wasn't my main focus and I was looking for parts that would be common to an 1100R, many of which wouldn't by definition be those you have listed. Every day is a school day.
Knowing what I now know from what you say though, I do desire a 1000R2 a lot more than I did, but I would paint it green
The prices of all of them are amazing though!
Cheers,
Mark.

Sorry, it was a bit of a rant wasn't it!
I agree about the green though, changed mine from white when I restored it 20 years ago.... and of course, a Kerker!

Ditto Weaver It’s because they made fewer so they’re “rarer”. The fact that they made less because they couldn’t flog many in ‘84 and ‘85 is neither here or there.. ironically the rivet counters think the earlier the model your round cam Zed is the more desirable it is - Z1, A, B, Z900, Z1000 etc. in declining order, but with Lawson it’s R1s then 1100Rs (R1R2 doesn’t signify) then 1000 R2s. S1s excepted...

Well it appears that I will be advertising my Z1100R again! The person who bid on my bike and 'bought it' never called me or came to collect it, he has now also stopped responding to emails. Never experienced this before and really surprised because it's someone on this forum as well!

You have my sympathies, it happens too often, I've just had a chap buy a Katana 750 for £1400, then complain he could no longer afford it with the shipping. I haven't moved in the last 4 days, and I presume he hasn't either!!

Did you sell the XT?
Tonka wrote:Genuine & Super Rare Z1100R Eddie Lawson - Only 18070 Miles
I am selling my genuine and super rare Kawasaki Z1100R Eddie Lawson as I need to reduce my motorbike collection from 9 to 5 as I need the space. Therefore, I have made the difficult decision to sell this Z1100R along with my Ducati 916 Foggy Rep, Suzuki GSXR750RR and a Yamaha XT500C.
I will list the details of this Z1100R below:
Only 18,070 miles from new (MOT's going back to 1995 that helps support this)
All round excellent condition (paintwork was redone back in 2007 and is holding up exceptionally well)
Kerker exhaust with 'sports' baffle fitted (sounds gorgeous and slightly loud)
Comes with original swingarm (handles much better with the one fitted though)
Will come with a new MOT (booked in for next Saturday)
New battery fitted
Comes with original long rear mudguard

No not yet, that's the next one to go when I get it out of its vac bag and out of the lockup. Might get round to it this weekend.
