For Sale: 1973 UK Z1 - SOLD

One of only 14 thought to still survive of the original 40 imported into the UK by Agrati Sales in 1973 - first registered in August 1973 as PBJ 20M.

• Frame no: 12304 (approx build date April 73)
• Engine no:12559
• Current mileage: 29667

Previously owned by long-standing Z1OC member Chris Martin, PBJ 20M underwent a full staged stripdown and rebuild between 2004-05 which included:

* Powder coat frame and swing arm
* Engine rebuilt
* Carbs cleaned / balanced.
* New paintset in original Candy Green and Yellow.
* Replacement wiring harness.
* Replacement Doremi Z1 exhaust system, with original type ‘peashooter’ tubes fitted in baffles

The Z1 presents and rides very well and is an excellent example of a 1973 UK Z1. The engine is quiet on tickover, no evidence of smoke and pulls very cleanly through the gears on the road and it rides faultlessly.
Whilst close, this UK Z1 is not 100% concours standard (although it could be made to be so) as there are some non-original parts fitted e.g. seat cover, Takasago rims are not date correct, non-date stamped right side switchgear.

Hi Andrew, don't visit this site much these days but very suprised to see my old Z1 for sale again, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat if I could still ride and very tempted but it would only sit in the garage so pointless really, doubt it will hang around for long as somebody wanting a Z1 won't go far wrong buying this one, cracking bike at a sensible price, Frank would want 30k for that. Tell Dave good look with the sale and hope it finds a good home, think it would look good in your garage Andrew next to your UK Z900

Hi Chris,
I'm doing ok thanks and recovering well after my stroke last June - I finally started driving again on Friday, all a bit weird at first after just over a year of not driving. But it will be a while before I start riding again.

Dave is really gutted and sad to sell the Z1, in fact he is selling all his bikes, which means the RD500, RG500, NS400R, GT750A will all be going to new homes as he needs to keep his mum in a care home (I think he'll keep his R1). As you know the bike is keenly priced for what it is, so hopefully it won't hang around long and will go to a good home and to someone who appreciates it.

If I had the money and space I would definitely take it off his hands, but my riding days may be behind me (hopefully not)- time will tell.

That's good news. I was sorely tempted when Dave offered me 1st refusal, but with 7 bikes in the garage already !
