Description of bike when I bought it 2 years ago, little use since.

Stunning and restored Kawasaki Z1075 cc restomod, 1979, £1000s spent. Looks great, sounds fantastic and goes like stink with a binder full of history and receipts. Registered as a historic vehicle so no requirement for road tax or MOT.

Engine

Full engine rebuild/ modification and restoration less than 3, 000 miles ago to 1075 cc spec including:

• New Wiseco 1075 cc piston kit (£562)
• Cylinders bored/ honed
• Full cylinder head overhaul with new intake and new exhaust valves
• New tappet shims
• New cam chain guide, idler shaft etc.
• New clutch plates and springs
• New Dyna S electronic ignition.
• New carburettor mount/ inlet set
• Full carburettor overhaul including gaskets, jets, new floats, O-rings etc
• New air filters
• Harris works chrome exhaust and downpipes
• Downpipes to exhaust collector retaining/ expansion springs replaced with stainless KTM items (not shown in pictures but now fitted).
• New oil temperature gauge (plus new OEM oil filler cap comes with the bike)
• New correct spark plugs and genuine NGK spark plug caps
• New coils and HT leads
• Full gasket set, cam plugs, cylinder head washer, tacho oil seal set etc.
• New crankcase vent filter
• All service parts

All receipts for the above are in the folder that comes with the bike.

Frame

Approximately 10 years and 4, 000 miles ago the frame was completely stripped, powder coated and restored. The tank, rear fairing and side panels were resprayed and many parts were replaced and rechromed.

At this time, the later Kawasaki Zephyr twin 300 mm vented discs, 4 pot callipers, coated braded brake hoses and 17 inch front wheel were fitted along with a Zephyr box section swinging arm, wider 17 inch rear wheel and twin pot brake callipers, metal front mudguard etc.

This conversion was carried out by a specialist company and provides far better braking, handling and a wider choice of tyres but retains the retro look and of course uses genuine Kawasaki parts.

You can see from the photos that all this work still looks stunning. However, with zero miles since I have bought and fitted:

• New custom made stainless steel/ chrome rear Hagon progressive shocks (£231)
• New rear damper mounting rubbers
• New high flow front brake master cylinder (for twin discs) with new banjo bolt and crush washers
• Z1 mudguard eliminator kit
• New rear taillight loom
• Complete new Z1 taillight assembly
• New genuine clutch lever assembly including mount, lever and adjuster. (£65)
• New tacho cable
• Complete new right-hand switchgear assembly and loom
• Complete new left hand switchgear assembly and loom
• New handlebar grips including throttle sleeve (Genuine £90)
• Complete new speedo clock assembly (old one retained for milage verification)
• Complete new tacho clock assembly
• New clock brackets
• New complete wiring loom and bulbs (and all rubber mounts) for clocks and warning lights along with new stainless screws for rear cover.
• New indicator stems
• New indicator lights and lenses
• New indicator mount kit
• New indicator relay
• New rubber seat stoppers
• New tank badges and screws
• New side panel badges and clips.
• One new side panel and rubber grommets (one of the lugs snaped)
• New handlebar bolt set
• New fuel tank mounting rubbers and rear retaining rubber strap
• New chrome locking petrol cap with 2 keys
• New chrome fuel tap and filter
• New correct Excide battery
• New battery rubber mount/ support and new battery securing bracket
• New main fuse block/ holder and cable including fuses.
• Various stainless steel nuts and bolts
• Various bullet connectors replaced with new
• Replacement tool tray
• New correct domed Lukas headlamp
• New Avon front tyre

New correct twin throttle cables set waiting to be fitted as the current single cable works perfectly and the engine oil and filter were changed last week.

To accommodate the wider Kawasaki Zephyr front wheel and brakes, the Zephyr pulse speedo pick up has been retained and uses a small separate Koso digital speedo which reads correctly and accurately. The current mileage on the digital speedo is 4000 miles and reflects the correct mileage since the main conversion was carried out. Prior to the conversion work, the analogue mileometer read 23, 026 miles so 27, 000 miles in total but as you can see from the details above and the pictures, almost everything on the bike has been restored, replaced or upgraded.

Frankly a ridiculous amount of time and money has been spent on this bike to get it to look just like the one I used to ride in the late 70s/ early 80s but modified so that it actually goes, stops and handles but using Kawasaki parts for the sympathetic conversion.

The bike comes with a Haines workshop manual, bike cover and large A4 binder full of receipts mostly from Z power. There are various original items which have been retained, for example the speedo, to show the original mileage.
