I know for a FACT that the 306 is prone to water in engine - as the air intake is low at the front of the car He got it towed to a garage and they had another couple of 306's in for similar trouble.

A mate trashed his diesel 306 couple weeks back - only going slow through a 4" puddle

Probably doesn't help but v12 mercs also have a low air intake.

I've seen a hydraulic'd one of those and it was not pretty.

well would you believe it, checked it all out, no water in the bores, the glug glug sound must have been it trying to start with an exhaust full of water while i was looking at it i noticed that the air intake nozzle which is indeed low down at the front was disconnected at the back so its been taking air in from the top rear of the engine, thus only a little got in and dampened the filter. i still have to bail it out inside, people are saying it will smell for a bit blimey, no change there then thanks to all for the words of wisdom and thanks for not taking the p;ss over this one, it was a bit untimely.

but how lucky am i that the nozzle was disconnected before i hit the water anyway

Great news Mick - next time keep it in 1st gear and keep below 30mph

I got one of these..... (2nd one I've owned)





..... and I only go at idling in 2nd gear (quick walking pace) and still no deeper than a foot Water knackers any vehicle, washes bearing out, fooks electrics - especially starter motors that are usually set low - and even 4x4 have breathers on the axles which when immersed in water, the oil cools quick and water can get sucked into the breather

The car will take a while to dry out the upholstery and the fabric will smell damp and the inside windows will be for ever misting up .......... however, hire a dehumidifier for a few days and put that inside the car and that will extract the moisture efficiently, that's what they use on flood damaged properties, just blank off all the vent holes first.

both suggestions very good. Piggy, ive been saving for something a bit more country capable for a while now, almost there
oldtimer, that is exactly what ive just done 30 mins ago, funny thing, a customer has asked me to put a dehumidifier in their holiday cottage down here, ive just bought it for them and thought it best to "test it" first
