Eleanor - Damaged car.

So, Wednesday 3rd Jan was in effect my first day back at work after 3 weeks. It didn’t start well when I fell about 10 feet cracking a rib in the process.
I went home and felt sorry for myself.
My lad needed picking up from his work so I left just after dark.
Down a very dark lane I noticed branches across the road, hit the brakes and sailed straight in to a tree which completely blocked the road.

I feared the car was written off. Perceptive really as the CAP value is £1700. My excess of £1000 would hurt. As the wheels are worth twice that, options were already being considered.

Most of the force was to the N/S/F wheel which was well and truly floppy. In fact it broke the steering arm.

Pic to follow.

I got hold of a second hand arm so I could at least move it and figured it had also suffered damage to the subframe.
It was a very hard bang but the airbags didn’t go off.

Will be interested how much it costs to get back on the road.

We are all too quick to walk away from a car if it's 'Written off'

My despair at first was short lived.
£180 for the recovery, £9 for the steering arm, £42 for wheel alignment.
I borrowed a car trailer to fetch it home where it is currently stripped.

Off to the breakers this weekend.

This was Saturday afternoon. It shows the damage to the inner wing top section.

I haven't taken a picture under the bonnet yet but the slam panel is also bent, albeit slightly.
I spoke with a body shop and they are confident something can be done. I did have my van reapaired some years ago and was amazed at what they could pull out.

This was what made the biggest bang.
