Not a good day to be stripping parts from a donor car. The snow was wet and quite heavy this lunchtime.
Thanks to paul Mceleney who helped I got much of what’s needed. What a trooper.

No pic as it was disgusting weather.

Hmmmm... Is that the aluminium bodied X350 model? I've had a proper hankering For an X350 XJR for years. Unfortunately, my champagne tastes are no match for my lemonade pockets.

It's an X308. The last of the gangster cars.
Latest update - finding parts.
The bumper is one complicated item. What you see on modern cars it seems is merely a flashy cover for the strengthening beam. I had damaged both mounts, 1 replaced so far, and the beam. I got a good enough one that I could use but with some repair. Chrome strips are all there but they are held on with speed clips. Sadly not the generic types. Work continues on this item. Lights and lamps have been obtained and luckily the fog lamp brackets were still there. I may have had to buy another bumper just to get hold of any missing bracket.
Wings are virtually all rusted secondhand. I managed to find a really goo done at my local Jag garage.
Headlamp brackets were never sold as a separate item. A breakers in Darlington has sourced me a good pair. I collect tomorrow. There will be further work on the parts I have and will need to get these in a usable order.
If I had to buy new I would already be in to £000,s

This is turning in to a tricky job but as usual the search for parts is not unlike trying to refresh an old Zed.

Pictures will follow of all the parts prepared for assembly.

Some progress, though some disappointments.
Here are the bumper parts all laid out. One of the mounts is missing as I’ve had to order another from a breaker.

There are some repairs required such as the under tray, which has some splits, the mounts, with one broken and some others split. There are some digs in the plastic as well. A plastic welding expert is needed. I have to decide on options here.
The headlight brackets aren’t available as separate items. The second hand lights I bought are crap. I’ve therefore decided new is the only way. A complete quad headlight assembly is £840. I can get the VAT back but that’s still an awful lot of money.

I spoke with the garage who cautioned about respraying off the car. It seems there are 3 different shades to each paint code. I may well be at the point where I have to just give the car to an experienced body shop with knowledge of the foibles of this particular marque.
Next step is to speak to the body shop to agree a price.

Mrs P says I should just scrap the car.

That was my wife's suggestion when my car got written off, so I got a 24 hour loan of an XKR F type

She let me rebuild my baby!

Car has gone to the body shop. Sadly the recommended repairer declined so I plumped for the nearest, most professional looking independent repairer. I borrowed a trailer to get it down there on Saturday morning. They will start it tomorrow.
I’ve ordered 2 sets of headlights, a small loom which was broken and a reverse parking sensor for £1k. Eek!

Progress and pictures to follow when I get the bumper back to build up.

Feel for you matey, these old luxury barges cost the earth when they go wrong! Just ordered brake cylinder/abs pump for my Lexus, near £1600  and that was nearly 60% off list! Laugh, I nearly cracked a smile!

Trouble with that Neil is that all the parts I need are the popular and broken bits. Wings for example are a nightmare. £150 for something rusty is not good. Try finding a clean one though.

Anyhow, some progress. I have the bumper back from the body shop to build up.

Back from the body shop yesterday I spent the morning final footing ancillary parts.

I’ll have to order some more of the plastic clips and other parts as well as pop back for pinstriping to be added.
I need the car for a trip to Warwick so rushed the body shop.

Mrs TLC took this photo of my intrepid self this morning.
