Any Velocette 2 stroke experts?

A strange request but a chap I know has a 1929 Velocette Model U 250cc stroke. It was his Grandad's and he's rebuilding it. Engine back together and in the frame, ready for a start....it won't, coughs and pops on neat fuel. I know this isn't a lot to go on but I don't want to put a long post together. If anyone is interested and think they could help I can put a link up. The problem is there is very little documentation available so everything is knowledgeable guess work.
Cheers

Cheers for the reply Chris, he has got in contact with them, in the meantime he measured the ring gap 1.3mm....quite possibly got something to do with it!

He's sent the barrel and piston to these chaps who said they can put a liner in hopefully.

Update...they can't do barrels with integral heads. Is there anyone of you out there wanting a challenge, or know of someone that can?
Any response would be gratefully received.
