XS 650

#1 PostAuthor: jimmock » Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:38 pm

Hi Guyz,

I'm going to upgrade my XS 650 Special to electronic ignition.
It is currently running the twin points and condensers.

What would be my best option for an "all in one" kit?

Boyer Jim, easy to fit, only thing i changed is the blue box location, i extended the wiring and located it in the tool box under the seat, i also may have a pair of modified sockets if you wish to borrow them it makes it easier to time up.

Are those Boyer kits still readily available?

What are the "modified sockets" ??

Did you notice a difference after fitting?

Thanks.

Jim.

Yep direct from Boyer in Maidstone Kent, I noticed a marked improvement on starting and running, the sockets are modified so you can tighten up the rotor with the pick up plate in situ. Will look for them tomorrow and put a picture up.

OK, Thanks for that.

What model of XS 650 do you have?

What is the part number of the Boyer kit.

I find the points a pain in the erse.
I set it up statically and it starts good, but doesn't run worth a toss on a run.
If I set it up with a strobe, it runs good but is a cnut to start!!

I have had two 78 specials 447 motors, the kits fit all models the kit i have used on both is KIT00303, you can phone them direct and order on the phone, hey are a cottage industry and the instructions are printed in house so look a bit like that, just follow them and you will be fine. I found the points a pain, but i set the boyer up and strobed it and the bike performed faultlessly and started on the button and kick very easily.

Kev,

Any photos of your XS's?

I have a UK 79 V reg Special and an import 80 W reg Special.
The W reg has wire wheels, the main reason I bought it.
