its probably the F.I. better throttle response and fuel economy, but for me I'd go for carb's.

I've had five of them over the years. After 2 carb models I chose the DFI and sticked to it. No carb problems after a long stand, it always starts. Even after standing for a year. As mentioned earlier good throttle response and mileage. And believe me or not... I feel the extra 10 HP. For my parts I go here: https://www.mcg-z1300.de/index.html?cond.htm

I have owned 11 of these since 1981.

10 of them carb model and one FI.

The only one I have had any bother with was the FI and that was wiring and the DFI Box. Very expensive to find.

The best carb model to go for is the early A1 or A2 as they have the best ignition system and all parts are available and sensible prices.

The A3 and all models after that have different ignition systems which are problematic and very hard and expansive to find parts for.

You need to:-
Fit a ZRX1100 Camchain tensioner.
Numerous carb mods, but easy and low cost.
Keep standard airbox.
Fit the deep sump (along with longer oil pick-up pipe) off later models (if you can find one)
Hagon rear shocks.
Better front calipers.

Great bike once set up correctly and very strong reliable motor.
