Z1-A debut

#1 PostAuthor: MrDavo » Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:46 pm

As reported in 'Projects' my Z1-A made its debut after a long rebuild this weekend. I'm running in fresh bores, pistons and valves, so keeping the revs way down for the first 500 miles, I'm up to 140 already. She feels smooth and sure footed, I can't go quick enough to look for speed wobbles yet.

Here she is parked up above Holmfirth on the 'Isle of Skye' road, I stooped for a bacon butty from the van.

Day two, exploring East Lancs out above Burnley, I spotted a parked tribute act to my bike, a modern 900RS. The rider was chuffed that I stopped, as he wanted to see the 'real thing'. I declined his offer of a straight swap, well I would at 2X the value.

Nice paint job, I did point out that his engine looked like something out of a washing machine though.

Sundays are best for the top barn, you now have to park at the side car park, top round park for peds only.

I went up to Lancaster and back on Saturday, around 150 miles round trip, to see my Mum. She didn't fancy a ride on pillion.

Image

The bike went well, very smooth and no issues. By the time I got back it had done 500 miles since going back on the road after the top end checkover, so its now having its first service. One of the valve clearances has opened up somehow, the other 7 are all in spec. I will order a shim from Z Power today. Also a couple of the head bolts needed re tightening. Plugs are clean, also all four piston crowns have the same colour carbon on them, unlike the first attempt.
