Long shot... 1973 Z1 registration TJJ 90M

#1 PostAuthor: Jim W » Mon Apr 22, 2019 10:28 am

Back in the 70's a friend owned 1973 Z1 TJJ 90M. In those days I didn't have the money to buy my own Z1, but I used to ride his. I had good times on that Z1. The last time I rode it would be over 40 years ago, about 1975. Over the past couple of years I have looked on the DVLA site to see if TJJ 90M is still around? it seems it is on SORN at the moment. That is the bike I would really like to own more than any other. If anyone knows where TJJ 90M is, I would like to hear about it. Many thanks, Jim.

Well, it is still around though. It would be great to find it.
It has twin disks... in cast iron. These are better than the factory disks especially in the wet. My friend that owned the bike was an engineer, he made the disks. 45 years later I bet they are still on it.... unless a later owner didn’t like the look of rusting brakes of course.

Following your thread with great interest,
Attached is a picture of NGP 167P I owned around 1980, all DVLA say is tax was due in 1994.

I think TJJ90M was on the road as recently as just a couple of years ago. It is on Sorn last time I looked.

Jim,
Write a letter enclosing a SAE asking after the bike explaining what your interest is and send it to the DVLV requesting they forward it to the last recorded/current owner. They will do this for you but will not disclose who the owner is or their address to comply with the Data Protection Act (or whatever its called these days?) - I did this when trying to find my old CB750K1 as I wanted to buy it back, but then I found out it was written off by some t**t in 1988. :(

Good luck with your search.
Cheers, Andrew

That’s interesting, I didn’t think the DVLA would do that. I know they are happy to sell our details to car park companies, so maybe they will forward my contact details to the current owner.... I’ll give it a try.

Jim.
I totally understand remeniscing about all the good times we had on a particular bike, but at the end of the day they are just lumps of metal that have no connection with us.
If you fail to track it down then maybe the best way forward would be to buy a similar model and make it like your old one used to be. Besides, if you do manage to track it down and the present owner knows how much this means to you, you may well have to pay well over the odds for it.

Hi Will, Yes I agree and that is what I expect I will do.. but I’d like to try to find the one I enjoyed 45 years ago if I can.
