Z1B Fuel tap.

#1 PostAuthor: ADRIAN H » Tue Jul 28, 2015 2:00 pm

Wanted a fuel tap for a 1975 Kawasaki Z1B. Cash waiting.

Or a link to where I can purchase one.

I notice Z1 enterprises are not selling them, and SAISEI do not rate the reproduction parts.

Are both the Doremi and PMC ones faulty ?

Thanks in advance.

I do not think PMC have any in stock , the majority of the ones Zpower were selling leaked so looks like they have stopped selling them .
Most people are turning to Pingel !!

I've gone thru three or four of the Chinese ones. They don't use nitrile seals so the seals just turn to gum and leak. I took one of mine to the seal distributor and when I got home I found the Chinese had changed the barrel/on/off system from a tube with holes to a bloody cone shape.

The guy down at the Kawasaki dealership (sells Chinese scooters) says that when they get their new scooters into the shop he goes around to the seal seller and replaces all the petrol seals with nitrile. That saves the buyer having to come back with gas leaking all over the place.

So I've just bought a genuine Z1 black petcock on eBay. Will take that down and see what the seal guy makes of it.

In the meantime I've been using a Pingel which are the dog's bollocks but look so wrong on an early Zed bike.

just had the tap lever snap on my repro z1 tap.

fortunately at home and now while i was out.

Those who went to the rally Germany in 2012 with me will know what i thought of the seals in the thing. Sadly so did most of the hotel residents.

WEBIKE.JAPAN ARE SELLING THESE - as Doremi and PMC products ?

Doremi - http://japan.webike.net/products/21365363.html
PMC - http://japan.webike.net/products/20343184.html

I have been tempted to buy one of these, but I am hesitant - as feedback seems to suggest they will be faulty.

As said PMC and Doremi have not had stock for around a year to my knowledge so I doubt Webike have any.

The one on flea bay is FENG SHITE buy at your peril :D

I have no commercial interest in telling you guys this since I can't get hold of good taps either :(

I've had two FUNG SHITE taps, one from Germany and one from Z Power, they both leaked and went back for refunds.

I too need a replacement for my A4 as the original one leaks. Can't understand why there is not a replacement one out there that does not leak as there is clearly demand.

Usual problem seems to be scoring on the nylon valve body which then allows the petrol weep around. Not sure if replacing the valve alone would cure the leakage problems, inside face of the body may also be scored, but I can't imagine it would be difficult for an engineering company to get a batch of the nylon valves made?

I think they would only be the o-rings, which don't seal the valve to the body.

Tap works with a nylon valve that has a tight fit on the internal bore of the aluminium body and the back face and relies totally on this fit to stop the petrol leaking in the closed position. However, wear and any scores on the faces of the valve or the aluminium body will then allow it to leak as there are no o-rings between the valve and the outlets.

.
It's a lever with the modified O ring - fits the 1973 /74 Triples and Z1s ?

Thanks.

The A4 taps must be different to the earlier ones as the valve is a separate larger nylon body which the tap locks into.
