The race baffle in my Harris sounds a bit too enthusiastic! Anybody got a road baffle in reasonable nick?

I haven't got one, but from memory they're quite restrictive you might be better off with a dB killer in the baffle you have

Thanks Julian but would a db killer not also restrict the exhaust? Are db killers brand specific? Do I need/can I get one for a Harris or are they universal?

I think they're fairly universal, the Harris race baffle is just a 50mm perforated tube, so any 50mm dB killer would fit.
The Harris road baffle is 3 tubes in a plate and then another tube that exits at the rear, it's pretty simple.
When I had a Harris I looked at reducing the 50mm tube to a 38mm one, quite easy to do as you can run the smaller tube up the centre of the bigger one and use exhaust putty to hold it in place as a temporary measure, my intention was to get 50 - 38 reducers made (basically big washers) but the GSX750 it was on knocked it's big ends out at Santa Pod before I got round to finishing it back in 1989.

This is one

I found it a couple of days ago looking for stuff I seem to have lost - it's black chrome with a couple of small dents it's an original Harris from about 1983 so it's 100% solid. It would tidy - the chrome would polish up. It's been in the shed for about 20 years the actual Harris is now on my brother's bike wth a loud baffle... If you're interested PM me

Just reigniting this old post as I would like to get my road baffle out and butcher it to make a race baffle (if that can be done).
First problem is getting the damn thing out of the exhaust - it seems to be stuck solid and there is no screw holding it in either. Any ideas?

No, nothing holding it in except friction!

Years ago i made up a slide hammer to pull one out that would not shift, it worked for me, i have a slightly modified road baffle in my harris style exhaust, its a bit freer flowing and louder but not to the point of getting a tug from plod.
