RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
Does anyone have a rack to fit a Z1000J please?

Re: RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
I have one off mine and its sound but over engineered. In fact it is capable of withstanding a rear end shunt. Its painted in silver hammerite which would need to come off. Has the rear mounting bracket. Will get a picture up over the weekend

Great, thanks Al.

As below.
Its no lightweight and a cautionary note; if you overload it you will snap the short frame extensions off the rear end. Dont know what the design carry weight is supposed to be i'm afraid.
The rear mounting bracket bolts to the ends of the frame extensions where the light is attached. Front ones go on the top shock mounts.

Yep, I think you are right Al.
Re: RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
Just a last question to anyone who might know;
Did Kawasaki make a specific rack for the J?
Before I take up Al’s kind offer, if there is such a thing as an OE Kawasaki rack - does anyone have one they would be willing to part with?

Nigel

Re: RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
I spent a long time trying to find a dedicated rack.
The only one I ever found was the Rickman which is not for sale.

Thanks, that's useful information.
Looks like the grab rail is not fitted in the picture. Is that because it wont fit with the Rickman or did you choose not to fit it?

Re: RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
The thing with the J is that support for any rail or rack has to go through the lock bolts. Therefore to fit one you have to remove the other. The instructions actually state it is necessary to chop the helmet/seat lock to make it fit. I managed to do so without doing this by using another lock as I still have one key for All locks.
The next point of connection for the rack is under the tail at the end of the frame rails. These use a dropper bracket to make a third point of fixture.
All in all a good strong fix but like Al says don’t overload the rack.
Bearing in mind the reduced frame thickness compared to earlier Zeds it is also advisable to watch the weight on any rack.

Re: RACK FOR Z1000J WANTED
Hmmm. That’s very interesting and thanks for the info.
I probably wasn’t thinking of putting too much weight on there. Just a small top box with a back pad occasionally for when my wife wants to go out on the bike with me as nowadays she feels more secure like that.
But I’m certainly going to be wary of putting too much weight on it now.
Nice looking bike, and the Rickman looks good on it too.
