2.8mm spade terminals for early 80's connectors

#1 PostAuthor: Kwackman » Wed Jun 13, 2018 1:58 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to replicate the wiring loom (without the "fixes" done previously) of an 82 Z400J.

I'm coming unstuck trying to locate female spade terminals for some of the connectors.
After a lot of help from Kojaycat via email yesterday, I learnt that the standard 2.8mm terminals will not fit the older unlatched connectors. (The "height" of the actual female bit of the old terminal is 2.0mm, on the standard 2.8mm terminal it's 2.5)
Kojaycat only do complete kits (male/female spades and connector blocks), but not the terminals on their own.
Does anyone know of a source of the terminals?

This is the connector block.

This is the old terminal (the tang was flattened when removed from block)

And the standard one

Thanks for any help.

Hi Kwackman, try looking for Vehicle Wiring Products in Ilkeston on the internet. I have had many bits from them for many years. Pretty sure they will have what you need. Mick

84p for a pack of 10, if it was me, I'd be buying 10 and trying them regardless of what the measurements say.
Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks for the replies.
I emailed Vehicle Wiring Products (I've bought from them several times recently) and although helpful they don't have what I'm after.
I eventually tracked down a shop in USA that had them, and have ordered the little buggers.

Can't believe that. I've had 100s of 2.8mm terminals from them.

Also, have you not actually tried ebay

I have many 2.8mm terminals from them, and others dealers too.
The issue is that there were two different sizes of female spades.
The smaller ones (which I think manufacturers stopped using in the mid 80s) are the illusive ones.
The ordinary sized ones are available from many sources, including eBay, but I'd rather buy from someone like Vehicle Wiring Services, or Kojaycat.
Kojaycat, to their credit, were very helpful with my enquiries and informed me about this earlier sized terminal, even though they weren't able to supply the terminals separately from the plugs.

In case it's useful to someone else, I got the correct terminals from "Vintage Connections" in USA.

2.8mm Female Spade for Non-Latching Connectors are the ones.
