Centre stand for Z1000J
I'm after a reasonably priced centre stand for my J.
There is one on fleabay in Germany, plus one for a Z1000R from the same seller but half the price.
They look very similar, but does anyone know whether the R one will fit the J ?

Hi Rick
in Germany, and maybe some other countries too, the centrestands and even the side stands have two springs instead of one, like in most of the other european countries. I'm not sure about the J model but certain about the A models!
Take a good look at the pictures before buying a centrestand in Germany.

Thanks Philippe.
In reality I only want it for use in the workshop. I'll take it off for riding, so the spring arrangement is not that important as long as the bolt holes line up with the frame and the thing supports the bike securely.

The '81 version (M1, K1, J1 and possibly B1) has a single spring. After that they all ( i think) had two.
I dont have one anymore but thought i would mention an alternative. I use an 18 inch long piece of 1 inch OD, thick walled, steel tube with two holes drilled in it. It clears my exhaust and when bolted onto the two spigots on the bottom of the frame, provides a very quick and easy method of lifting the bikes rear wheel clear of the floor in the same way the centre stand did. I just put an axle stand on either side. One side first and then sort of hinge it up and push the other in with my foot. The two spigots have a standard 8mm metric thread. Quick, cheap, basic.

Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
I used to do something similar on my old TL1000S Suzuki (great bike, but now sold to a mate).
No centre stand at all, but had a tubular spindle on the swing arm pivot that I would push a steel bar through and then support on axle stands.
I can't quite visualise how this would work on the J in the way that you describe (my lack of imagination !).
Have you got any pictures you could share?

The R stand will fit the J.
CMSNL list the R stand, J1, J2 and J3 as part no 34011-1032, with some market variations listed as 34011-1033, but that will be the spring arrangement as stated.
Cheers,
Mark.

Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
Thanks Mark (needaz) great info.
From what you're saying it seems that all of the variations on the J model framed versions should be ok for what I need. I'm guessing the gpz Unitrak versions will be different though, so will need to check that.
Cheers
Rick

Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
What about a Z1000H centre stand will that fit
Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
The arrow shows the RHS spigot and there is an identical co-responding one to the left.
It may or not clear youre exhaust. I took a gamble since the majority of J's dont have standard exhausts!!

I use an ABBA stand on my Gpz - works well in the workshop. I’m not sure if the J is as easy but I imagine it can be made to work.

Brilliant, thanks guys.
I'll have to check whether my exhaust allows this. It's a Delkevic, which is good for access to the oil filter, but I'll need to line things up when I get a chance.

Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
OK, so having looked under the bike I can see the spigots now (presumably held the original exhaust in place?). My Delkevic doesn't leave enough clearance for a one inch tube, so I've ordered some flat steel bar 50mm x 10mm which should be thin enough to squeeze through and sit nicely on my axle stands.
AL - using the "measure twice, cut (drill) once" advice, I don't suppose you could tell me the centre to centre distance between the two spigots? (or the holes in your tube)
I'll measure them anyway, but always good to have a second opinion !

Re: Centre stand for Z1000J
180mm holes centres but that's measuring upside down as its on there with wheels out. Do yourself a favour and drill 12mm holes for the 8mm bolts and allow a little wiggle room. Should also point out that the location mentioned is not the balance point and to work on the front end you would still need to support that independently.
