Jim,
Hopefully the attached letter received back from DVLA will give you encouragement.

Cheers,

Watching this thread with interest and nostalgic rose tinted glasses i looked up the bikes of my youth on the DVLA site; most were last taxed in the 80's and early 90's but my GS1000 BTO 285T is still taxed, mot'd and insured
I am interested to see how Jim gets on.............sure you may have to pay an inflated price if the current owner knows how important it is to you and of course is willing to let it go!!!!

Well, I’ve got nowhere with the DVLA. They returned my letter with one telling me they don’t offer a forwarding service. Buggers. I think maybe it depends who opens the letter.... I’ll give it a while and try again.

The copied letter was 2016, since then most of the local offices have been closed moving a larger amount to the main offices. Maybe they have dropped the service like the MOT history has lost the last dealer info that carried out the last known test . Just a thought

Agreed, I got totally ripped off by a fellow Z1OC member 10yrs ago, he had just bought my old Z1000, didn’t want to sell, but we chatted about this bike back in the day when I owned it for nearly 8yrs, then just a cpl of months later, miraculously he decides to sell :D happy days! Except, he wants well over twice the going rate at the time, but my terminally ill partner insists we buy it back regardless because of the memories that we both associate with this bike from when we first met :D What a woman! And that’s just the beginning of the story! Jeez, I miss her massively :(

Back in the 70's a friend owned 1973 Z1 TJJ 90M. In those days I didn't have the money to buy my own Z1, but I used to ride his. I had good times on that Z1. The last time I rode it would be over 40 years ago, about 1975. Over the past couple of years I have looked on the DVLA site to see if TJJ 90M is still around? it seems it is on SORN at the moment. That is the bike I would really like to own more than any other. If anyone knows where TJJ 90M is, I would like to hear about it. Many thanks, Jim.

Jim,
Try multiple stratagies.
Who bought the bike, where do they live. Follow the chain of ownership forward.

Date government employees, in particular those with access to sorn records.
I like to dine at fine restaurants, please join me for dinner.
I like women, however in this case an exception could be made.
Present your case.

Guess where the bike could be now, either wildly or with info from the past.
Put ad in these papers, looking for old Kawasaki motorcycle TJJ 90M, reward offered.

I owned a z1 in 73 and 74. Sold bike to a friend who owned it 75 and 76 then sold it.
Twenty five years later, I wonder where my z1 is, started searching very hard.
I had multiple ideas, could not get info.
Five years later a single woman move in across street. I went over to talk.
Two weeks later guy and girl come to see me. Guy says do you remember me?
Yes, you are from the past, what is your name. He was one of possible owners.
Did you own a Kaw z1 ? Yes, still have it. Is it mine, where is it ? Yes same bike, went to shop across town, under a pile of lumber, car parts, there was my z1 in a big pile of parts.

Well....'still looking for this one. It's on SORN at the moment somewhere. I would really like to find this bike and speak to the current owner.
I haven't seen it for over 40 years. Lots of memories of it though...….

I've been looking for this bike for a long time. I've just bought a very nice Z1B, but I would still like to find the Z1 I used to ride 45 years ago if I can. I've looked on the dvla site again.... it's on SORN right now.

Just had a look at the 2009 pics of the Yorkshire rally and it wasn't there then.
Keep hunting and keep us informed.
